John Coburn (painter)
John Coburn (23 September 1925 – 7 November 2006) was an Australian abstract painter, teacher, tapestry designer and printmaker. Born in Ingham, Queensland, John Coburn moved from town to town with his mother and two younger sisters when his bank manager father went from branch to branch. His father died when the boy was 10. While enlisted in the Royal Australian Navy during World War II, Coburn travelled around the Pacific and Indian oceans as a radio operator. He drew images from these places whilst aboard HMAS ''Nepal'', including Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea and others. Coburn studied art at East Sydney Technical College in 1947. John Coburn (politician)
John Coburn (October 27, 1825 – January 28, 1908) was a United States Representative from Indiana and an officer in the Union Army during the American Civil War. Early life and career Coburn was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1825 (the year the city became the new state capital) and attended the public schools there. Later, he attended Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana, graduating in 1846. As a student, he founded the Wabash College chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, the first Greek letter fraternity on the campus and in continuous existence to today. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1849, and commenced practice in Indianapolis. Civil War Coburn was a member of the Indiana House of Representatives in 1850. He served as a judge of the Court of Common Pleas from 1859 to 1861, when he resigned to enter the Union Army following the outbreak of the American Civil War. John Coburn (May 25, 1724 - January 20, 1803) was a noted silversmith active from about 1745 to 1790 in Boston, Massachusetts. Coburn was born in York, Maine, and apprenticed circa 1737 to John Edwards in Boston. He is best known for his tea-serving items, and also for silver objects for churches in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Maine. John Bowen Coburn
John Bowen Coburn (September 27, 1914 – August 8, 2009) was bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts from 1976 to 1986. Early life and education Coburn was born on September 27, 1914, in Danbury, Connecticut, the son of the Reverend Aaron Cutler Coburn and Eugenia Bowen Woolfolk. He studied at Wooster School, a school founded by his father and graduated in 1931. Later he studied at Princeton University from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in politics in 1936. Between 1936 and 1939, he taught English and Biology at Robert College in Istanbul, Turkey. After that he studied at the Union Theological Seminary from where he earned his Bachelor of Divinity in 1942. He was awarded a total of ten Doctor of Divinity from different universities, a Doctor of Sacred Theology from Berkeley College in 1958 and a Doctor of Canon Law from Kenyon College and General Theological Seminary in 1968.
