John Chen Shi-zhong
John Chen Shi-zhong ( zh, t=陳適中, p=Chén Shìzhōng, w=Chʻen Shih-chung; 26 December 1917 – 16 December 2012 in Yibin, Sichuan, China) was the Roman Catholic bishop of the Diocese of Suifu (Yibin), China. Born in 1917 to a Chinese Catholic family and raised in Yibin, Bishop Chen was ordained to the priesthood in 1947. Chen was imprisoned twice, first time during the 1950s and again during the Cultural Revolution in the 1960s. He was rehabilitated in 1981 and was named bishop in 1985. He was recognized by the Holy See and the People's Republic of China as bishop. In 1988 to 1989 he was briefly rector of the regional seminary in Szechwan, before returning to his diocese in Yibin, due to ill health. In 2011, Peter Luo Xuegang was consecrated as coadjutor bishop of Yibin (Suifu) to assist Shizhong. John Chen (pianist)
John Chen (born 10 June 1986, Kuala Lumpur) is a Malaysian-born New Zealand concert pianist. In 2004 he became the youngest-ever winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition. In his subsequent concert tour of Australia he performed 31 recitals, making it the longest tour ever undertaken by a classical musician in Australia.'' Limelight'', June 2008, p. 27. Noble House (novel)
''Noble House'' is a novel by James Clavell, published in 1981 and set in Hong Kong in 1963. It is the fourth book published in Clavell's ''Asian Saga'' and is chronologically the fifth book in the series. The "Noble House" in the title is the nickname of Struan's, the trading company first introduced in Clavell's ''Tai-Pan''. The novel is over a thousand pages long, and contains dozens of characters and numerous intermingling plot lines. In 1988, it was adapted as a television miniseries for NBC, starring Pierce Brosnan. 2022 Laguna Woods Shooting
On May 15, 2022, a mass shooting occurred at the Geneva Presbyterian Church in Laguna Woods, California, United States. The Orange County church was hosting a congregation of the Irvine Taiwanese Presbyterian Church for Sunday services. The shooter killed one person and wounded five others. A suspect, 68-year-old David Chou of Las Vegas, was arrested at the scene. Authorities allege that the crime was committed out of political hatred of those who consider Taiwan as their national identity. Chou has been charged with one count of murder and five counts of attempted murder, all with hate crime enhancements, and four counts of possessing an explosive device.
