John Chaney (judge)
John Anthony Chaney (born 26 February 1953) is a former justice of the Supreme Court of Western Australia and President of the Western Australian State Administrative Tribunal. He was also formerly a judge of the District Court of Western Australia. He was educated at Aquinas College, Perth and the University of Western Australia. He graduated from UWA with a B.Juris in 1975 and LLB in 1976. He was a partner in the firm of Northmore Hale Davy & Leake, later Minter Ellison & Co, from 1980-1994. John Chaney (January 12, 1790 – April 10, 1881) was a U.S. Representative from Ohio for three terms from 1833 to 1839. Biography Born in Washington County, Maryland, the son of Susanna and Nathan Cheney, Chaney moved with his parents to Pennsylvania. He received a limited schooling. He moved to Ohio in 1810 and settled in Bloom Township, Fairfield County, Ohio. He engaged in agricultural pursuits. Chaney married Mary Ann LaFere of Bloom Township in 1816. He was in the Justice of the Peace in 1821, 1824, and 1827. Trustee of Bloom Township for twenty-three years. Major, colonel, and paymaster in the Ohio State Militia. He served as member of the State house of representatives 1828-1830. Chaney was elected associate judge of Fairfield County in 1831. Ohio Presidential elector in 1832 for Andrew Jackson. John Chaney (January 21, 1932 – January 29, 2021) was an American college basketball coach, best known for his success at Temple University from 1982 through 2006. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001 and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Early life and playing career Chaney was born in Jacksonville, Florida, but grew up in Philadelphia. He began his career after graduating from Bethune–Cookman College and spending some time in the Eastern Professional Basketball League, first with the Sunbury Mercuries from 1955 to 1963 and Williamsport Billies from 1963 to 1966. Coaching career Chaney first became a basketball coach in 1963 at William L. Sayre Junior High School (now high school) at 58th and Walnut Street in Philadelphia.
