Tendring
Tendring is a village and civil parish in Essex. It gives its name to the Tendring District and before that the Tendring Hundred. Its name was given to the larger groupings because it was at the centre, not because it was larger than the other settlements. In 2011 the parish had a population of 736 and the district had a population of 138,048. The linear village straddles the B1035 from Manningtree to Thorpe-le-Soken. Mike Selvey
Michael Walter William Selvey (born 25 April 1948), known as Mike Selvey, is an English former Test and county cricketer, and now a cricket writer and commentator. Selvey played in three Tests for England in 1976 and 1977. His county cricket commitments included service to Surrey, Middlesex and Glamorgan. He is currently President of Middlesex. Life and career Selvey was educated at Honeywell Primary School, Battersea Grammar School, the University of Manchester and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. He played cricket for Surrey and Cambridge University before joining Middlesex in 1972, where he spent the majority of his playing career. Selvey made a dramatic debut in Test cricket against the West Indies at Old Trafford in 1976, when he opened the bowling and took the wickets of Roy Fredericks, Viv Richards and Alvin Kallicharran for only six runs in his first 20 balls. In cricket, a batter is not out if they come out to bat in an innings and have not been dismissed by the end of an innings. The batter is also ''not out'' while their innings is still in progress. Occurrence At least one batter is not out at the end of every innings, because once ten batters are out, the eleventh has no partner to bat on with so the innings ends. Usually two batters finish not out if the batting side declares in first-class cricket, and often at the end of the scheduled number of overs in limited overs cricket. Batters further down the batting order than the not out batters do not come out to the crease at all and are noted as ''did not bat'' rather than ''not out''; by contrast, a batter who comes to the crease but faces no balls is ''not out''. A batter who ''retires hurt'' is considered not out; an uninjured batter who retires (rare) is considered ''retired out''. 1990 English Cricket Season
The 1990 English cricket season was the 91st in which the County Championship had been an official competition. The size of the seam on the cricket ball had been reduced markedly from 1989, and along with dry conditions and the extension of four-day cricket this enabled batsmen to make large scores and Graham Gooch became one of a handful of players to average over 100 in a first-class season. Mark Andrew Robinson (born 23 November 1966) is the current Warwickshire coacand a former English cricketer. Playing career A right-arm fast-medium bowler who played for three different English counties (Northamptonshire, Yorkshire, and Sussex). He also spent one season in New Zealand, playing for Canterbury. Coaching career After retiring from playing, he served as coach of Sussex from 2005 to 2015, winning County Championships with the team in 2006 and 2007, and also coached several England Lions tours. He led the England women's cricket team to the 2017 World Cup. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen's 2018 New Year Honours. Jim Griffiths (cricketer)
Brian James Griffiths (born 13 June 1949 in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire) is a former English first-class cricketer who played for Northamptonshire. He was a medium pace seam bowler, who took over 400 first-class wickets spanning a twelve-year period between 1974 and 1986. Griffiths later played for Lincolnshire and continued playing league cricket into his fifties. He is however best remembered not for his bowling but for his inept batting, managing a career average of just over 3 runs per innings, which is the second-lowest by any regular first-class cricketer ahead of Francis McHugh of Yorkshire and Gloucestershire. Griffiths was out 51 times in his career without scoring and early in his career played ten consecutive innings without scoring a run, breaking the long-time record of Tom Goddard, Seymour Clark and Brian Boshier.
