John Caffrey (Gaelic Footballer)
John Caffrey (born 1958) is a Gaelic footballer who played for the CLG Na Fianna club and for the Dublin county team. Caffrey won an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship medal with Dublin in 1983. He also won four leinster titles (1979, 1983, 1984 and 1985) along with two Sigerson Cup medals with UCD in 1978 and 1979. John is the brother of the previous Dublin senior football manager, Paul Caffrey Paul Caffrey is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Na Fianna club and for the Dublin county team. CLG Na Fianna ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Na Fianna) is a Gaelic Athletic Association club based in Glasnevin, in the Northside of Dublin, Ireland. It caters for the sporting and social needs of many connected residential areas adjacent to its location through the promotion of Gaelic games — Gaelic football, hurling, camogie, handball and rounders—and the traditional Irish pursuits of music and dance. The Dublin county football team represents Dublin in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Dublin GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). All-Ireland Senior Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC) ( ga, Craobh Shinsir Peile na hÉireann) is the premier competition in Gaelic football. An annual tournament organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA), it is contested by the county teams in All-Ireland. The first tournament was held in 1887; it has been held every year since 1889. Each tournament ends with a final, played by the 35th Sunday of the year at Croke Park in Dublin, with the winning team receiving the Sam Maguire Cup. Paul Caffrey
Paul Caffrey is a former Gaelic footballer who played for the Na Fianna club and for the Dublin county team. He is also a former manager of his county team and is a Dublin-based Garda. Background Caffrey grew up on Dorset Street on the Northside of Dublin, where his parents ran a greengrocers' shop. His football career began in St. Vincent's C.B.S. school in Glasnevin and nearby club Na Fianna.
