John Brocklehurst (politician)
John Brocklehurst, DL, MP (30 October 1788 – 13 August 1870), known as John Brocklehurst the younger, was an English silk manufacturer, banker and Liberal Party politician from Macclesfield in Cheshire. He sat in the House of Commons for 36 years, from 1832 to 1868. Brocklehurst was the second of three sons of John Brocklehurst, of Macclesfield and Lea Hall in Cheshire, and became a partner in one of the most successful banking and silk-manufacturing companies in Macclesfield. Under the Reform Act 1832, the town gained the right to elect two Members of Parliament (MPs), and Brocklehurst was elected at the 1832 general election as one of the first two MPs for the newly enfranchised borough of Macclesfield. He held the seat through nine further elections until he retired from Parliament at the 1868 general election, when his eldest son William Coare Brocklehurst was elected in his place. Mark Dent-Brocklehurst
Geoffrey Mark Dent-Brocklehurst (25 April 1932 – 9 September 1972) was a British stockbroker and the heir to Sudeley Castle. He was the son of Major John Henry Dent-Brocklehurst and his wife, Mary (''née'' Morrison). Via his paternal grandmother, Marion Lascelles, he is a descendant of Henry Lascelles, 3rd Earl of Harewood. Thus he was a third cousin of George Lascelles, 7th Earl of Harewood. David Chadwick (politician)
David Chadwick (23 December 1821 – 19 September 1895) was an English accountant and Liberal Party politician. He sat in the House of Commons from 1868 to 1880. Early life David Chadwick was the son of John Chadwick, who was originally from Macclesfield but later moved to Manchester. Chadwick was educated in Manchester, and began training as an accountant in 1843. By 1870 he was a senior partner in Chadwicks, Adamson, Collier, and Co., based in London and Manchester. He was a President of the Manchester Statistical Society, the first president of the Manchester Institute of Accountants, and an associate of the Institution of Civil Engineers. At the 1865 general election, Chadwick unsuccessfully contested the borough of Macclesfield, but he won the seat at the 1868 general election. Edward Christopher Egerton (27 July 1816 – 27 August 1869) was a British Conservative politician from the Egerton family. Background Egerton was the son of Wilbraham Egerton and Elizabeth, daughter of Sir Christopher Sykes, 2nd Baronet. William Egerton, 1st Baron Egerton, was his elder brother. Marianne Brocklehurst
Marianne Brocklehurst (1832–1898) was an English traveller and collector of Egyptian antiquities. She supported a number of Egyptian excavations and donated most of her collection of antiquities to the West Park museum in Macclesfield. Personal life Brocklehurst was one of the eight children of John Brocklehurst, a wealthy Macclesfield silk manufacturer, and his wife Mary. The family started out in the button making business, but they moved into silk in the 19th century. Marianne was born in 1832 and had traveled widely with her sister Emma from when she was around 20 years old. She had an early interest in archaeology and photography. In 1861 she accepted a marriage proposal from one Henry Coventry, a distant relation of the Earls of Coventry, but her father made her end the relationship because her fiance didn’t have enough money. Brocklehurst Baronets
The Brocklehurst Baronetcy, of Swythamley Park, in the parish of Rushton, in the County of Stafford and of Stanhope Terrace, Hyde Park, in the County of London, was a title in the Baronetage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 27 August 1903 for Philip Lancaster Brocklehurst. He was the youngest son of John Brocklehurst, a silk weaver and Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, the younger brother of William Coare Brocklehurst, also Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, and the uncle of John Brocklehurst, 1st Baron Ranksborough. Philip Lancaster Brocklehurst was succeeded by his eldest son, Philip Lee Brocklehurst the second Baronet. He was an Antarctic explorer and took part in Ernest Shackleton's 1907 to 1909 expedition to Antarctica. He had met Shackleton whilst he was an undergraduate at Cambridge.
