Sir John William Bowen CBE (8 May 1876 – 1 April 1965), known as William Bowen, was a British trade unionist and politician. Born and educated in Gowerton in Glamorgan, Bowen left school aged eleven to work at the Post Office. John Bowen (alderman)
Alderman John Bowen JP (16 December 1844 – 16 April 1926) was a British businessman and was High Sheriff of Worcestershire. Bowen's father was a blacksmith from Rochford, Worcestershire. In 1875, he founded the firm of builders, John Bowen and Sons, in Birmingham, which was subsequently responsible for several notable buildings, not least Victoria Law Courts, and several others, on Corporation Street in that city. He served as a magistrate in Worcestershire, was elected as an alderman for the county in 1892, and was High Sheriff of Worcestershire in 1916–17. Bowen is buried, with his second wife, at Brandwood End Cemetery. In 2014 the Birmingham Civic Society unveiled a blue plaque in his honour, with the intention of affixing it to another of his buildings, a school now known as The Ark Academy in Tindal Street, in the city's Balsall Heath. John Templeton Bowen (8 July 1857 – 3 December 1940) was an American dermatologist. He was a professor of dermatology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Bowen obtained his doctoral degree in medical sciences from the Harvard University in 1884. From 1884 to 1887, he pursued postgraduate studies in Berlin, Munich, and Vienna. He joined Massachusetts General Hospital in 1889 as an assistant in the skin diseases department. In 1907 he became a professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School. During his time at Harvard, he was elected president of the American Society of Dermatology. John Clyde Bowen (May 12, 1888 – April 27, 1978) was a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Washington. Education and career Born in Newbern, Tennessee, Bowen received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee in 1913 and a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1916. He was a Lieutenant in the United States Army F.A.R.C. during World War I from 1917 to 1918. He entered private practice in Seattle, Washington in 1919, and was a member of the Washington State Senate in 1931, and later a legal adviser to the Governor of Washington in 1933. He was a tax collector for the Internal Revenue Service for the Districts of Washington and the Territory of Alaska from 1933 to 1934. John Bowen (1756–19 June 1832) was an English painter, genealogist and antiquarian. Life Bowen was the eldest son of James Bowen, painter and topographer, of Shrewsbury, where the younger Bowen was born. Bowen studied local antiquities under his father; traced out the pedigrees of Shropshire families, and became skilful in deciphering and copying ancient manuscripts. He died on 19 June 1832, aged 76. John Bowen (pirate)
John Bowen (16?? – 1704) was a pirate of Créole origin active during the Golden Age of Piracy. He sailed with other famous contemporaries, including Nathaniel North (who would succeed him as captain of Bowen's final ship, the ''Defiant'') and George Booth, who was his captain when he was a crewman aboard the ''Speaker''. Over a four-year period, Bowen took about £170,000 in goods and coinage and retired to Bourbon for a brief period of time before his death in 1704. Early life Born on Bermuda, Bowen later moved to the proprietary colony of Carolina, where he signed on an English ship, serving as a petty officer. Bowen's ship was attacked and he was captured by French pirates. The pirates crossed the Atlantic Ocean, heading to Madagascar, but they ran aground near Elesa on the south of the island.
