John Bowden (architect)
John Bowden (died 1822) was an Irish architect and member of the Board of First Fruits of the Church of Ireland from 1813 to 1821. He was born in Dublin and died in 1822. Bowden, having studied at the Dublin Society's School of Architectural Drawing between May 1798 and 1802, won premiums in 1799, 1801 (as 'John Boden', ex-pupil) and 1802. He served his apprenticeship with Sir Richard Morrison. He designed many churches and courthouses around the country including St. Stephen's Church of Ireland (Pepper Canister), Mount Street, Dublin. St Stephen's was completed by his student Joseph Welland after his death. In 1817 he entered the competition for the Wellington Testimonial in the Phoenix Park, Dublin. By 1818 he had also become architect to the Board of Education. John William Bowden (21 February 1798 – 15 September 1844) was an English functionary and writer on church matters. John Bowden (minister)
John Bowden (died 1750) was an English Presbyterian minister. Life While Bowden was identified, in Walter Wilson's manuscript list of dissenting academies, with the Bowden who studied under Henry Grove at Taunton, this was later taken to be an error. Bowden was settled at Frome, Somerset, before 1700, as assistant to Humphrey Phillips, M.A. (silenced at Sherborne, Dorset, 1662, died 27 March 1707). He became sole minister on Phillips's death, and the meeting-house in Rook Lane was built for him in 1707. According to Dr. Evans's list he had a thousand hearers in 1717. Among them was Elizabeth Singer Rowe, whose funeral sermon Bowden preached in 1737. During the last nine years of his ministry Bowden was assisted successively by Alexander Houston (1741), Samuel Blyth (1742, moved to Birmingham 1746; see Bourn, Samuel, 1689-1754), Samuel Perrott, and Josiah Corrie (1750), who became his successor. John Daniel Peter Bowden (born 25 July 1973) is an English cricketer. Bowden is a left-handed batsman who bowls left-arm medium pace. He was born at Sidcup, Kent. Bowden represented the Kent Cricket Board in List A cricket. His debut List A match came against Denmark in the 1999 NatWest Trophy. From 1999 to 2003, he represented the Board in 12 List A matches, the last of which came against Derbyshire in the 2003 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy. In his 12 List A matches, he scored 342 runs at a batting average of 31.09, with a 2 half centuries and a high score of 91. In the field he took 4 catches. He currently plays for Sevenoaks Vine Cricket Club in the Kent Cricket League. John Bowden (linguist)
John Frederick Bowden (born 1958 in Australia) is a linguist who specializes in Austronesian and Papuan linguistics. His main research interests are the languages of eastern Indonesia and Timor-Leste. Education Bowden obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees in linguistics at the University of Auckland. In 1992, he completed his doctoral studies at the University of Melbourne, where he wrote a grammatical description of the Taba language for his dissertation. Career Together with researchers from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (Lembaga Ilmu Pengetahuan Indonesia), he documented the Gamkonora language, a Papuan language of Halmahera. He has done research on non-standard Malay lingua francas such as North Moluccan Malay and the dialect of Jakarta. Also, Bowden has extensively studied South Halmahera languages, especially on linguistic typology, language contact, and grammar. John Stephen Bowden (17 May 1935 – 6 December 2010) was an English Anglican priest, publisher, and theologian. Life Born on 17 May 1935 in Halifax, Yorkshire, Bowden was educated at St Paul's School, London, and Corpus Christi College, Oxford, where he came under the influence of Christopher Evans. He was ordained as a priest in the Diocese of Southwell in 1962. Bowden was a lecturer in theology at the University of Nottingham when, in 1966, he was appointed managing director of the religious publisher SCM Press, which published works by leading continental theologians such as Martin Hengel, Gerd Theissen, Edward Schillebeeckx, Hans Küng, and Jürgen Moltmann. He held the post until his retirement in 2000.
