John Boland (Fine Gael Politician)
John James Boland (30 November 1944 – 14 August 2000) was an Irish Fine Gael politician who served as Minister for Health from January 1987 to March 1987, Minister for the Environment from 1986 to 1987, Minister for the Public Service from 1982 to 1986 and Minister for Education from 1981 to 1982. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) from 1977 to 1989. He also served as a Senator for the Labour Panel from 1969 to 1977. Boland was born in Dublin in 1944. He was educated at Synge Street Christian Brothers School and University College Dublin, where he received a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Boland first became involved in politics in 1967, when he was elected to Dublin County Council. He served on that authority until 1981. Boland first ran for the Dáil Éireann at the 1969 general election, however, he was unsuccessful. He did secure election to Seanad Éireann on the Labour Panel, becoming the youngest ever Senator at the time. He was re-elected to the Seanad in 1973. B ... Bertram John Boland (12 February 1913 – 9 November 1976) was a British novelist and science fiction author. Boland was born in Birmingham, but later lived in East Sussex, on the edge of Ashdown Forest with his wife, Philippa.Biography and bibliography taken from the dust jacket of The Gentlemen at Large. Published by Forest House Books. His most well known book was ''The League of Gentlemen (novel), The League of Gentlemen'' (1958) which was released as a The League of Gentlemen (film), film. However, characters' names and the ending were changed.The book ends with the main character shooting himself. In the film, he gives himself up to the police. He wrote two sequels: * ''The Gentlemen Reform (1961)'' * ''The Gentlemen at Large (1962)'' They continued with the characterisations developed in the film. John Mary Pius Boland (16 September 1870 – 17 March 1958) was an Irish Nationalist politician, and Member of Parliament (MP) in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and as member of the Irish Parliamentary Party for South Kerry from 1900 to 1918. He was also noteworthy as a gold medallist tennis player at the first modern Olympics. Early life Boland was born at 135 Capel Street, Dublin, to Patrick Boland (1840–1877), businessman, and Mary Donnelly.
