John Sidney Blyth
John Barrymore (born John Sidney Blyth; February 14 or 15, 1882 – May 29, 1942) was an American actor on stage, screen and radio. A member of the Drew and Barrymore theatrical families, he initially tried to avoid the stage, and briefly attempted a career as an artist, but appeared on stage together with his father Maurice in 1900, and then his sister Ethel the following year. He began his career in 1903 and first gained attention as a stage actor in light comedy, then high drama, culminating in productions of ''Justice'' (1916), ''Richard III'' (1920) and ''Hamlet'' (1922); his portrayal of Hamlet led to him being called the "greatest living American tragedian". After a success as ''Hamlet'' in London in 1925, Barrymore left the stage for 14 years and instead focused entirely on films. John Blythe (31 October 1921 – 24 November 1993) was an English character actor. Career He entered films as a stage hand aged sixteen and made his film debut with ''Goodbye Mr. Chips'' in 1939 as one of the schoolboys (uncredited). His second film role was the much more substantial role of Reg Gibbons, son of Robert Newton's and Celia Johnson's Frank and Ethel, in Noël Coward's and David Lean's ''This Happy Breed'' (1944). He had a brief part, too, as ''Jane Hylton's boyfriend in ''Dear Murderer, in 1947. He went on to specialise in playing spivs and fast talking wide boys, particularly during the late 'forties and early 'fifties when he enjoyed memorable roles in films such as ''Holiday Camp'' (1947), ''A Boy, a Girl and a Bike'', '' Diamond City'', '' Boys in Brown'' (all 1949) and ''Lili Marlene'' (1950). The Archdeacon of Stow and Lindsey is a senior ecclesiastical officer in the Church of England Diocese of Lincoln. History The Archdeaconry of Stow is an ancient division of Lincoln diocese; the first archdeacons are recorded from around 1092 (the time around which archdeacons were first appointed across the English church) and were among eight archdeacons in the exceptionally large diocese. John Buddle Blyth (1814 – 24 December 1871) was a Jamaican-born chemist who was the first professor of chemistry at Queen's College Cork in Ireland. With August Wilhelm von Hofmann, he was the first to report photopolymerisation which they observed when styrene became metastyrol after exposure to sunlight. John Dean Blythe (1842–1869), was an English writer. Biography He was born at Ashton-under-Lyne on 12 April 1842, the son of Peter Dean Blythe and his wife Elizabeth. His grandfather, James Blythe, was a notable Scotch schoolmaster at the village of Limekilns, about fifteen miles from Edinburgh. After a brief stay at the Ryecroft British school, Blythe worked in a factory; then obtained a post on a local paper as reporter, and afterwards entered a firm in Manchester, in whose employment he remained until his death. He attended night classes and studied by himself. He learned Latin, French, and Spanish, and read English literature. A retentive memory enabled him to recall an immense number of passages, especially from Shakespeare. On one occasion, Blythe supplied the references to fifty-seven out of sixty passages selected to try him. John Blythe (footballer)
John Alfred Blythe (31 January 1924 – June 2007) was an English footballer who made 17 appearances in the Football League playing as a centre half for Darlington. Blythe was born in Darlington, County Durham. During the Second World War, he served with the 20th Battalion of the Durham Home Guard. He began his senior football career with Darlington. He played 12 times for them in the wartime leagues from the 1944–45 season onwards, and made his Third Division North debut early in the first post-war season. With Tom Kelly established at centre half, Blythe appeared only infrequently for Darlington's first team, making 17 Football League appearances in three years. He played in the first six matches of the 1948–49 season, but did not appear again until March 1949, after Kelly suffered a head injury.
