John Bissett Of Lovat
John Bissett, Lord of Lovat (died 1260) was a Scottish nobleman. Life His father John, Lord of the Aird fled to Ireland and then to England, with his uncle Walter Byset, Lord of Aboyne after Walter and John had been complicit in the murder of Padraig, Earl of Atholl after a tournament at Haddington in 1242.Way, pp. 362. He died without surviving male issue. His lands were divided between his co-heiresses: *Cecilia, married William de Fenton; passing Beaufort into the Fenton family; had issue. *Elizabeth, married Andrew de Bosco; passing Kilravock into the de Bosco family; had issue. *Mary, married David de Graham; passing Lovat into the Graham family; had issue. John Byset
John Byset the Elder, Lord of the Aird (died 1257) was a Scoto-Norman nobleman who is the progenitor of the Bissett family of the Glens of Antrim in medieval northeastern Ireland, present-day Northern Ireland. Biography Born in Scotland, certain details of what is known of his life are limited. John fled to Ireland and then to England, with his uncle Walter Byset, Lord of Aboyne after Walter had been complicit in the murder of Padraig, Earl of Atholl.Way, pp. 362. They were received into the peace of King Henry III of England. Among these are the date of his death as recorded in the Annals of Ulster. His name has the distinction of being the ancestral element in the Gaelic style Mac Eoin (Bissett) of the Glens used by his descendants in Ireland into the 16th century. He is known to have had a son John Bissett of Lovat. Walter Byset, Lord of Aboyne (died 1251) was a Scoto-Norman nobleman. Biography Born in Scotland. Walter married in 1233, Ada de Galloway, daughter of Lochlann of Galloway. She was the sister of Alan of Galloway. Walter fled to Ireland and then to England with his nephew John Byset after they had been accused of involvement in the murder of Padraig, Earl of Atholl (his cousin in-law) and two companions at their lodgings after a tournament at Haddington in 1242.Way, pp. 362. Padraig, Earl Of Atholl
Padraig or Patrick of Atholl was Mormaer of Atholl, from 1236/7 until 1241. The Chronicle of Melrose tells us that while he was lodging in Haddington, East Lothian, his enemies, "most wicked men," torched his lodging, killing both him and his two unknown companions. The chronicle had a high opinion of Padraig, and says that Padraig was "one imbued with all courtly wisdom and wit." Padraig was succeeded by his aunt Forbhlaith, with her husband David de Hastings. Consequent upon his murder the Scottish nobility, led by Patrick II Earl of March, exhorted by David de Hastings, pursued Walter Byset, Lord of Aboyne who sought protection from King Alexander II. William De Fenton
Sir William de Fenton, Lord of Baikie and Beaufort, was a 13th-14th century Scottish noble. William was one of Robert de Brus, Lord of Annandale's auditors during the arbitration for the Crown of Scotland between 1291 and 1292. He performed homage to King Edward I of England at Berwick-upon-Tweed on 28 August 1296. He also performed fealty to Edward I on 14 March 1304 at St. Andrews. His coat of arms was "Argent, three crescents gules". Through his marriage to Cecilia, a co-heiress of John Bissett of Lovat, Beaufort passed into the Fenton family. Andrew de Bosco, Lord of Redcastle and Kilvarock was a 13th-century Scottish noble and soldier. David De Graham Of Lovat
David de Graham, Lord of Lovat (died 1297) was a 13th-century Scottish noble and soldier. David was a younger son of David Graham of Dundaff. He swore fealty to King Edward I of England in 1291 and was one of John Balliol's auditors in 1292 during the competition for the Scottish crown. He fought at the Battle of Dunbar in 1296 and was captured together with a number of his relatives. His older brother Patrick was killed during the battle. Held in English captivity, he was released on condition of serving in King Edward I of England's expedition in Flanders in 1297. He died in Flanders in 1297.
