Westminster was a parliamentary constituency in the Parliament of England to 1707, the Parliament of Great Britain 1707–1800 and the Parliament of the United Kingdom from 1801. It returned two members to 1885 and one thereafter. The constituency was first known to have been represented in Parliament in 1545 and continued to exist until the redistribution of seats in 1918. John Best (British Politician)
John Best (1821 – 18 June 1865) was a British barrister and Peelite politician. Best was the son of W B Best, and was born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire. He was educated at Shrewsbury School before graduating from Peterhouse, Cambridge in 1844. He was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1846, and practised on the Oxford Circuit. He was a counsel to the Palace Court from 1847 until its abolition in 1849. On 5 September 1849 he was elected to the House of Commons as Peelite Member of Parliament (MP) for Kidderminster. He stood as Conservative at the next general election in 1852, but was unseated by his Liberal opponent, Robert Lowe. Best married Mary Smith of Ismere House, Worcestershire in April 1848. John Herbert Best (born March 27, 1971) is an American former professional basketball player. A forward/center listed at 6-foot-8, he played college basketball at Tennessee Tech for 4 years, and in his senior year he ranked 3rd in the NCAA Division I in scoring with an average of 28.5 points per game. He was selected by the New Jersey Nets in the second round of the 1993 NBA draft (36th overall), but he was cut before the beginning of the 1993–94 NBA season and started his professional career in France. After playing in Puerto Rico, Switzerland and the Philippines, Best joined German team Bayer Giants Leverkusen where he was the Basketball Bundesliga Top Scorer in 2001 with an average of 22.9 points per game. John Best (soccer)
John Best (11 July 1940 – 5 October 2014) was an American international soccer defender. He spent six seasons in the North American Soccer League where he was a five-time first team All Star. He later coached the NASL Seattle Sounders and served as the general manager of the Sounders and the Vancouver Whitecaps. He also earned one cap with the U.S. national team in 1973. Playing Best began his career in England. He played for Liverpool in 1959 under the new manager, Bill Shankly, after which he played seven games with Tranmere Rovers in 1960. In 1967, he moved to the United States where he signed with the Philadelphia Spartans of the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL). In 1968, the NPSL merged with the United Soccer Association to form the North American Soccer League. When the Spartans folded, Best and several of his teammates, transferred to the Cleveland Stokers for the 1969 NASL season. John Best (died 1570) was Bishop of Carlisle from 1560 until his death. Background He was from Halifax, West Yorkshire, Halifax and attended King Henry VIII's College from 1538 to 1539. Personal life and career In 1550 he married Elizabeth Somner. In 1553 Best was Canon (priest), canon of Wells Cathedral, Wells and in 1559 he was made Rector (ecclesiastical), Rector of Romaldkirk. He was consecrated Bishop of Carlisle on 2 March 1561, after the previous Bishop had been deprived of his see, after performing Elizabeth I's coronation in Roman Catholic liturgy despite Elizabeth's Protestant faith.
