John Bell (13 December 1879 – 16 March 1962) was a Scottish international rugby union player. Rugby Union career Amateur career Bell played for Clydesdale. He was made captain of the club in September 1900. He moved to play for London Scottish in 1902. Provincial career He played for Glasgow District against Edinburgh District in the 1900 Inter-City match and in the 1901 Inter-City match. He played for Cities District against Provinces District on 12 January 1901. On moving to play for London Scottish, he then played for Anglo-Scots on 27 December 1902. Airdrie, North Lanarkshire
Airdrie (; sco, Airdrie; gd, An t-Àrd Ruigh) is a town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It lies on a plateau roughly 400 ft (130 m) above sea level, and is approximately 12 miles (19 km) east of Glasgow city centre. , the town had a population of around 37,130. Historically part of Lanarkshire, Airdrie forms part of a conurbation with its neighbour Coatbridge, in what is commonly known as the Monklands, formerly a district. Provinces District is a select Scottish provincial amateur rugby union team that draws its players from outside the Glasgow District and Edinburgh District area. It is occasionally known as the Rest of Scotland or the North-South side. Founded in 1893, the Provinces District team - and its corresponding Cities District team - was created, thus halving Scotland's representative rugby union area in two. Edinburgh District (rugby Union)
Edinburgh District was a select provincial amateur rugby union team that drew its players mainly from the Edinburgh area, as well as others from the rest of east central Scotland; roughly corresponding to the old Lothian regional council area. Historically the Edinburgh District team played matches against touring teams visiting Scotland from abroad, and also competed in the Scottish Inter-District Championship. The Edinburgh District rugby union team was founded in 1872. The team played the world's first inter-district match that year against Glasgow District rugby union team. The amateur Edinburgh District side evolved into the professional Edinburgh Rugby side in 1996; one year after rugby union allowed professionalism in 1995.
