John Basmajian
John V. Basmajian, (June 21, 1921 – March 18, 2008) was a Canadian academic and scientist. He was known for his work in rehabilitation science, specifically in the area of electromyography and biofeedback. Born in Istanbul of Armenian parents, he came to Canada in 1923. The family settled in Brantford, Ontario. During World War II, he served in the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps with the rank of captain. After the war, he received his M.D. in 1945 from the University of Toronto. In 1949, he accepted a position as a lecturer in anatomy at the University of Toronto. He was appointed an assistant professor in 1951, an associate professor in 1951, and a full professor in 1956. The Order of Canada (french: Ordre du Canada; abbreviated as OC) is a Canadian state order and the second-highest honour for merit in the system of orders, decorations, and medals of Canada, after the Order of Merit.
