John Barnewall, 3rd Baron Trimlestown
John Barnewall, 3rd Baron Trimleston (1470-25 July 1538), was an Irish nobleman, judge and politician. He was the eldest son of Christopher Barnewall, 2nd Baron Trimlestown and his wife Elizabeth Plunket, daughter of Sir Thomas Fitz-Christopher Plunket of Rathmore, Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench in Ireland and his second wife Marian Cruise. He succeeded his father as 3rd Baron about 1513. His father, like most of the Anglo-Irish aristocracy, had supported the claim of the pretender Lambert Simnel to the English throne in 1487. After the failure of Simnel's rebellion, he received a royal pardon. His ancestors came to Ireland originally with Henry II and received large grants of land in County Cork. However, at the first favourable opportunity the old proprietors, the O'Sullivans, rose and murdered the whole family save one young man, who was absent studying law in England. John Barnewall (Franciscan Friar)
John Barnewall, O.F.M. (c. 1595 – c. 1650), was a member of the aristocracy in Ireland who became a Franciscan friar. He served as a teacher and lecturer both locally and on the Continent. He was the Minister Provincial of Ireland during the Irish Confederate Wars, due to which position he communicated on Irish affairs with Franciscans on the European mainland, such as the historian, Friar Luke Wadding. He became involved in the conflict, opposing the excommunications issued by the papal nuncio in 1648. He last appears in documents dated July 1649. Biography Barnewall was the son of Robert Barnewall, 7th Baron Trimlestown (died 1639), and a brother of Matthias Barnewall, 8th Baron Trimlestown (died 1667). His mother was Genet Talbot, daughter of Thomas Talbot of Dardistown Castle, County Meath. Barnewall Baronets
The Barnewall Baronetcy, of Crickstown Castle in the County of Meath, is a title in the Baronetage of Ireland. It was created on 21 February 1623 for Sir Patrick Barnewall. He was the member of a family that had been settled in Ireland since 1172, when Sir Michael de Berneval landed on the coast of Cork. The second and third Baronets both represented Meath in the Irish House of Commons. The fifth Baronet, a descendant of the second son the first Baronet, established his right to the title in 1744. However, his cousin Thomas Barnewall, ''de jure'' sixth Baronet, never assumed the title and it remained dormant from his death in 1790 until 1821, when it was successfully claimed by Robert Barnewall, the eighth Baronet. John Barnewall (recorder)
Sir John Barnewall (c.1635-c.1705) was an Irish landowner, barrister and judge, who held several judicial offices, including that of Recorder of Dublin 1687-9. Background He was born in County Meath, a member of the Crickstown branch of the prominent Barnewall family, which held the title Baron Trimlestown. His grandfather, Sir Patrick Barnewall, was the first of the Barnewall Baronets. John was the second son of Sir Richard Barnewall, 2nd Baronet, and Julia, daughter of Sir Gerald Aylmer, 1st Baronet of Donadea, County Kildare and his wife Julia (or Juliana) Nugent, daughter of Christopher Nugent, 6th Baron Delvin. Career He entered the Inner Temple in 1673 and the King's Inns in 1678.
