John Baer (journalist)
John M. Baer is a political columnist with The (Harrisburg, Pa.) Patriot-News/PennLive, formerly with The Philadelphia Daily News/Philadelphia Inquirer. Career Baer has won numerous awards for column-writing and investigative journalism, including honors from the Associated Press Managing Editors, the Pennsylvania Society of Professional Journalists and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association. In 2018, he won First Place in the Pennsylvania Bar Association's Media Awards for commentary on issues of law and justice. In 2015, he won First Place for column-writing in the Pennsylvania Newsmedia Association's Keystone Press Awards and First Place for column-writing from the Associated Press Managing Editors. He was a recipient of the Pennsylvania Newsmedia Association's 2015 Benjamin Franklin Award for Excellence in recognition of "outstanding service" to the Pennsylvania newspaper industry. He earned his B.A. from Yale University (double major, psychology and Japanese Studies, magna cum laude) and his Ph.D. in cognitive and developmental psychology from Rutgers University. John Miller Baer
John Miller Baer (March 29, 1886 – February 18, 1970) was a U.S. Representative from North Dakota. Early years and education Born at Black Creek, Wisconsin, Baer was the son of Capt. John M. Baer and Libbie Riley Baer. His ancestors on the maternal side were the two families Riley and Swing. From the original family of the former descended the poet and humorist, James Whitcomb Riley, and from the latter, the philosopher and preacher. Prof. David Swing, of Chicago. Baer was also a descendant of the Blairs, an old and favorably known family of Southern Ohio. Baer attended the public schools of his town. He was graduated from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin, in 1909. John Baer (actor)
John Baer (June 6, 1923 – January 7, 2006) was an American actor. He appeared in over 60 film and television productions between 1950 and 1974. Among the highlights of his career was the leading role in the television series ''Terry and the Pirates'' (1953). One of his better-known film roles was as Paul Trochard, the greedy heir who gets killed by a snake, in Michael Curtiz's comedy '' We're No Angels'' (1955). While he spent most of his film career in supporting roles or bit parts, Baer also played the lead role in ''Night of the Blood Beast'', a horror film by Gene and Roger Corman. When his roles declined during the 1960s, Baer started a second career in real estate business. He retired from acting after a guest appearance in ''Gunsmoke'' in 1974.
