John Bacon (cricketer)
John Bacon (30 May 1871 – 16 October 1942) was an English cricketer. Bacon was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium pace. He was born at Enderby, Leicestershire. Bacon made his first-class debut for Leicestershire against Essex in the 1895 County Championship at Grace Road. He made three further first-class appearances for the county in that season's County Championship, against Derbyshire, Hampshire and Lancashire. He scored 42 runs in his four first-class matches, at an average of 6.00 and with a high score of 14. With the ball he took a single wicket. He later played for Cambridgeshire, making his debut for the county in the 1900 Minor Counties Championship against Northumberland. He made eleven further minor counties appearances for Cambridgeshire, the last of which came against Norfolk in the 1904 Minor Counties Championship. Enderby is a village and civil parish in Leicestershire, England, on the southwest outskirts of the city of Leicester. The parish includes the neighbourhood of St John's, which is east of the village separated from it by the M1 motorway. The 2011 Census recorded the parish's population as 6,314. The village's name means 'farm/settlement of Eindrithi'. The village is situated on the B4114 between Fosse Shopping Park and Narborough. The parish includes Fosse Shopping Park, Grove Park Commercial Centre and Everards Brewery. The parish is bounded by the City of Leicester and the civil parishes of Braunstone Town, Glen Parva, Lubbesthorpe, Narborough and Whetstone. Cambridge University Cricket Club, first recorded in 1817, is the representative cricket club for students of the University of Cambridge. Depending on the circumstances of each individual match, the club has always been recognised as holding first-class status. The university played List A cricket in 1972 and 1974 only. It has not played top-level Twenty20 cricket. With some 1,200 members, home matches are played at Fenner's. The club has three men's teams (Blues, Crusaders and the Colleges XI) and one women's team which altogether play nearly 100 days of cricket each season. Minor Counties Of English And Welsh Cricket
The National Counties, known as the Minor Counties before 2020, are the cricketing counties of England and Wales that do not have first-class status. The game is administered by the National Counties Cricket Association (NCCA), which comes under the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). There are currently twenty teams in National Counties cricket: nineteen representing historic counties of England, plus the Wales National County Cricket Club.
