John B. White was an American insurance businessman and state legislator in Oklahoma. He served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1964. He advocated for public housing legislation. The Oklahoma House of Representatives is the lower house of the legislature of the U.S. state of Oklahoma. Its members introduce and vote on bills and resolutions, provide legislative oversight for state agencies, and help to craft the state's budget. The upper house of the Oklahoma Legislature is the Oklahoma Senate. The Oklahoma Constitution established the powers of the Oklahoma House of Representatives in 1907. Voters further amended those powers through constitutional referendums. One referendum required legislators to balance the annual state budget. Edward Melvin Porter (May 22, 1930 – July 26, 2016) was an American lawyer, politician, and civil rights activist in the state of Oklahoma. Biography Porter was born in 1930 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. He attended Tennessee State University, Vanderbilt University Vanderbilt University (informally Vandy or VU) is a private research university in Nashville, Tennessee. Curtis L. Lawson (1935–2008) was an American state politician from Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1964 he was one of the first three African Americans elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives since A. C. Hamlin in 1908. Lawson represented a district in Tulsa from 1965 to 1969. He was an advocate for civil rights legislation, and also introduced a controversial abortion rights bill in 1967.
