John B. North
John Burton North (November 2, 1825 – February 27, 1907) was a shipbuilder and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Kings County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1874 to 1878 as an independent member. He was born in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. In 1855, he married Elizabeth Esther Ells. He built 54 ships between 1853 and 1904. He died in Hantsport, Nova Scotia at the age of 81. Cornwallis Park is a rural community in Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, Canada. As of the 2021 Canadian census, 2021 census, the population was 488, an increase of 1.9% from 2016. History The community is located on the western edge of Clementsport, Nova Scotia, Clementsport and immediately east of Deep Brook, Nova Scotia, Deep Brook. It was formerly named Cornwallis after a military base was established as in 1942 and becoming CFB Cornwallis in 1968 (it was mothballed from 1946 to 1949). After CFB Cornwallis closed in 1994 the property was converted to civilian use. A local development authority used the name Cornwallis Park and this name was formally adopted for the community in 2000. Hantsport, Nova Scotia
Hantsport is an unincorporated area in the West Hants Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia, Canada. It is at the western boundary between West Hants Regional Municipality and Kings County, along the west bank of the Avon River's tidal estuary. The community is best known for its former industries, including shipbuilding, a pulp mill, as well a marine terminal that once loaded gypsum, mined near Windsor. The community is the resting place of Victoria Cross recipient William Hall. History The area around Hantsport was known to the Miꞌkmaq as Kakagwek meaning "place where meat is sliced and dried" and the town is still home to a small Miꞌkmaq community known as the Glooscap First Nation or Pesikitk. Although no Acadians are known to have lived on the lands within the boundary of Hantsport proper, the area was part of the Acadian parish of Paroisse de Sainte Famille (established in 1698).
