John B. Alexander High School
John B. Alexander High School is a secondary school in Laredo, Texas, United States and a part of the United Independent School District. The mascot for Alexander High School is a Bulldog. The high school was established in 1994 to alleviate overcrowding at United High School in northern sector of Laredo. Freshman students are housed in a separate building at 4601 Victory Drive. Magnet school John B. Alexander High School also houses John B. Alexander High School Health Science Magnet School, a magnet school that focuses on health science education. United Independent School District is a school district headquartered in Laredo, Texas. History The district was created in 1961 via the consolidation of the former Cactus, Johnson, and Nye school districts. The "Big Three" involved in the establishment of UISD were rancher Joe B. Finley, Amparo Gutierrez, and John W. Arndt, all of whom have schools named in their honor. By the 2000s, United ISD had a rapidly growing student population due to the burgeoning populations of many colonias along the Texas-Mexico border. Victor Kaleb Canales (born July 7, 1978) is an American basketball coach who last served as assistant coach for the Indiana Pacers of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Early career Born in Laredo, Texas, Canales is a graduate of John B. Alexander High School. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in kinesiology. He later earned a master's degree in sports leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University. Canales began his coaching career as an assistant coach in 2001 at United High School of Laredo. The following year, Canales became an assistant coach at Martin High School also in Laredo. In 2003, Canales returned to UT Arlington to be an assistant coach.
