John Austin Clark
John Austin Clark (born 26 June 1982 in Louisville, Kentucky) is an American music director and keyboardist. He plays piano and historical keyboards, including harpsichord, Organ (music), organ and fortepiano. He is a founder and current director of Bourbon Baroque. Early life and education Clark was born in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was a choir boy before he began taking piano lessons at the age of 7. He continued to study the piano during his attendance of Louisville Collegiate School. As highschool freshman, he was deeply influenced by singing with the Louisville Bach Society. Performing in several highschool musical productions was another defining influence. He enrolled in the Governor's School for the Arts (Kentucky), Kentucky Center Governor's School for the Arts Vocal Music program in 2000. Antonio Juanas
Antonio de Juanas (c. 1762 – after 1819) was a composer in Spain and Mexico. The birthplace of Antonio Juanas is known from two letters sent to the Cathedral of Jaén in 1784. He was born in either 1762 or 1763 in the town of Narros, in the province of Soria. He was then educated at the San Felipe Neri Infant School of the Sigüenza Cathedral from the age of eight or nine, remaining for another ten years. Lucas Hnath
Lucas Hnath ( ) is an American playwright. He won the 2016 Obie Award for excellence in playwriting for his plays ''Red Speedo'' and ''The Christians''. He also won a Whiting Award. Biography Hnath grew up in Orlando, Florida. He moved to New York City in 1997 to study pre-med, and then changed to dramatic writing at the Tisch School of the Arts, at New York University, earning a BFA in 2001, and an MFA in 2002. He teaches at New York University. He is a resident playwright at New Dramatists. ''Red Speedo'' premiered Off-Broadway at the New York Theatre Workshop from February 17, 2016 to March 27, 2016. Squallis Puppeteers
The Squallis Puppeteers are a Louisville, Kentucky based puppetry troupe. The troupe was founded by Jess Myers, Nora and Carrie Christenson in 1997. Their performances include a yearly Fool's Day Bash, held on April Fools' Day. They became a non-profit organization in 2003. Squallis uses donations, grants, and everyday materials to form together huge, creative, 7-feet-tall extravagant puppets as well as puppet shows. On the first Saturday of every month Squallis opens its doors to the public, where they offer a family-friendly environment, puppet performance, and a kids puppet making workshop. ''Alcina'' ( HWV 34) is a 1735 opera seria by George Frideric Handel. Handel used the libretto of ''L'isola di Alcina'', an opera that was set in 1728 in Rome by Riccardo Broschi, which he acquired the year after during his travels in Italy. Partly altered for better conformity, the story was originally taken from Ludovico Ariosto's ''Orlando furioso'' (like those of the Handel operas ''Orlando'' and ''Ariodante''), an epic poem. The opera contains several musical sequences with opportunity for dance: these were composed for dancer Marie Sallé. Kentucky Opera
The Kentucky Opera is an American opera company based in Louisville, Kentucky. The company is resident at the Brown Theatre, as part of Kentucky Performing Arts. The Louisville Orchestra is the accompanying orchestra for the company. Moritz von Bomhard founded the company in 1952 as the State Opera of Kentucky. The company performed in the Columbia Auditorium until 1964, when they moved to the Macauley Theater (now called the Brown Theatre). Bomhard served as general director of the company until his 1982 retirement. Thomson Smillie succeeded Bomhard as general director, and during his tenure, the company began to give some performances at Whitney Hall in 1984. Smillie was general director until 1997. In 1998, Deborah Sandler became the company's general director. During her tenure, the company moved all of its productions to Whitney Hall.
