John Ashton (1830 – 25 December 1896) was a Welsh people, Welsh musician from Montgomeryshire, who had worked as a policeman and shoemaker. He wrote a number of songs and hymns, including ''Trefeglwys'', written in 1857. Ashton's songs were published in ''Miwsig y Miloedd'', ''Caniadau y Cysegr a'r Teulu,'' ''Llyfr Tonau Cynulleidfaol'', and ''Cerddor yr Ysgol Sabothol.'' Sir John William Ashton, OBE, ROI (20 September 1881 – 1 September 1963) was a prolific Australian Impressionist artist and director of the National Art Gallery of New South Wales from 1937 to 1943. Early life Ashton was born in Clifton, York, England, the only son of artist James Ashton, and his wife Mary Elizabeth Ashton (died 18 September 1945). His father emigrated to Australia, arriving at Adelaide, South Australia in January 1884 and founding a school of painting in "unpretentious but commodious" premises on The Parade, Norwood in 1885. His wife and son arrived at a later date, but generally given as in 1884. Ashton attended Prince Alfred College, where his father was art teacher, from 1889 to 1897. John Rowland Ashton
John R. Ashton MBE (1917–2008) was an English writer, lecturer, local historian and educationist active in Sweden. He was the former chairman of the British Factory. He resided in Gothenburg, Sweden, with his Swedish wife Torborg. Biography John Rowland Ashton was born in Manchester, England, in 1917. In his early life he studied law in London. He was employed by the Gothenburg Education Authority as English language teaching consultant in 1952, a post he held until 1982. During this time he co-authored several English language teaching series, published in Sweden and Norway. He also edited English texts for older students in Sweden, Germany and Holland. John Geza Ashton (born 30 November 1957) is an English musician, songwriter, composer, and record producer, with a career spanning more than 40 years. He is best known as the guitarist of the Psychedelic Furs. Early life John Geza Ashton was born on 30 November 1957 in Whips Cross Hospital, Forest Gate, London, and lived in North Kilworth in south Leicestershire. Career Ashton came to prominence in the early 1980s as the guitarist of the Psychedelic Furs. The band is an English post-punk group formed in 1977 by Richard and Tim Butler, Duncan Kilburn and Roger Morris. John Aston (preacher)
John Aston or Ashton ( fl. 1382), was one of John Wycliffe's earliest followers. Life Aston is described as M.A. and 'scholar' (or, once, 'bachelor') in theology at Oxford, and, according to Anthony à Wood, was a member of Merton College. He appears first to have been engaged as one of Wycliffe's band of itinerant priests, and by the year 1382 had become conspicuous for his advocacy of his master's views, particularly of those relating to the sacrament of the Lord's supper. John Ashton (Jacobite)
John Ashton (died 1691) was an English courtier and Jacobite conspirator. Life Ashton was clerk of the closet to Mary of Modena, the wife of James II, and, after the revolution of 1688, showed himself ardently devoted to the interests of his exiled master and mistress. He appears to have held a commission of captain or major in the army, and to have been an intimate friend of Dr. Thomas Cartwright, who was bishop of Chester from 1686 to 1689, and a zealous supporter of the Stuart dynasty. By religion Ashton was a Protestant, and late in 1690 he attended a meeting of Protestant Jacobites, at which it was resolved to invite Louis XIV of France to forcibly restore James II. John William Ashton (24 November 1866 – 20 March 1964) was the second Anglican Diocese of Grafton, Bishop of Grafton. Early life Ashton was born in Wakefield, Yorkshire, in 1866, the son of George Ashton and his wife Fanny (née Winter). Career Ashton was educated at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Wakefield and University College, Oxford, following which he was ordained deacon in 1892 and priest in 1893. John Ashton CBE (born 27 May 1947 in Liverpool, England) is a British doctor and academic. Ashton previously held positions at the University of Southampton, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the University of Liverpool School of Medicine and as Regional Director of Public Health for North-West England for 13 years. He was one of the initiators of the World Health Organization's Healthy Cities Project from 1986 to 1988 during which time it went from being a European project to a global movement and a pioneer of three public health initiatives. Although a member of the Labour Party, Ashton has criticised both Labour Party and Conservative Party health reforms from an anti-Market perspective.
