John Ashe (minister)
John Ashe (1671–1735) was an English dissenting minister. Ashe was the son of a grocer at Tideswell, Derbyshire. After being taught at Chesterfield by Mr. Foxlow, and at Wirksworth by Mr. Ogden, he was sent in 1688 to Rathmell Academy. He was chaplain for a time to Lady Sarah Houghton of Hoghton Tower, Lancashire, but returned to the Peak and was a minister at Ashford. He published an account of the life of his uncle, the Rev. William Bagshaw, ‘the Apostle of the Peak’ (1704); a few sermons; and prepared for the press eleven volumes of sermons, of which only one appeared. John Ashe (of Freshford)
John Ashe (23 October 1597– 9 February 1659) was an English clothier and politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1640 and 1659. Life Ashe was the son of James Ashe of Westcombe, Somerset and his wife Grace Pitt, daughter of Richard Pitt of Melcombe Regis. He entered the cloth trade and became on the "greatest clothier in his time". He came to the attention of the church authorities in the 1630s, associated with the "Beckington riots" against Alexander Huish, and the distribution of Puritan literature. He spent time in jail as an opponent of the ritualist side of Laudianism. In fact Ashe was important in distributing widely the ''News from Ipswitch'' of William Prynne, with Rice Boye. John Ashe (priest)
Francis John Ashe (born London, 11 February 1953) was Archdeacon of Lynn from 2009 until 2018. Ashe was educated at Christ's Hospital; the University of Sheffield and Ridley Hall, Cambridge. After an earlier career as a metallurgist he was ordained deacon in 1979, and priest in 1980. After a curacy in Ashtead he was Priest in charge at St Faith, Plumstead, Cape Town. John Ashe (general)
John Ashe, Sr. (ca. 1720 – October 24, 1781) was Speaker of the House of Burgesses in the Province of North Carolina. He was Harvard educated and fought in the North Carolina militia during the French and Indian War. During the American Revolution, he attained the rank of major general and was in charge of North Carolina militia and state troops from 1776 to 1779. He resigned from military service after the Patriot defeat at the Battle of Brier Creek in 1779. John Baptist Ashe (1748November 27, 1802) was a slave owner, U.S. Congressman, and Continental Army officer from Halifax, North Carolina. Biography He was born in the Rocky Point District of the Province of North Carolina in 1748. He was the son of Samuel Ashe and Mary Porter Ashe (cousin to her husband and first wife). His father's residence was called the Neck and was on the northeast Cape Fear River. His father was to be governor of the state and also brother of North Carolina militia General John Ashe. John Baptista Ashe (1810December 29, 1857), was an American slave owner, lawyer and the nephew of the Revolutionary War veteran John Baptista Ashe, who served as a U.S. Congressman for Tennessee for one term (1843–1845). Biography Ashe was born in Rocky Point, Pender County, North Carolina, in 1810. He attended Fayetteville Academy and was in the 1830 class of Trinity College (then called Washington College), Hartford, Connecticut, but for unknown reasons did not receive his diploma until 1844. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1832. Career Ashe then moved to Tennessee and commenced practice in Brownsville. As of the 1840 census, he owned eight slaves. John William Ashe (20 August 1954 – 22 June 2016) was a Antiguan diplomat and politician. He was the President of the United Nations General Assembly at its 68th session, which ran September 2013 to September 2014. He was also President of the UNICEF Executive Board in 2012. He served as Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York of Antigua and Barbuda between 1995 and 2004. Early life and education Ashe was born in St. John's, Antigua. His parents did not complete high school. His paternal grandfather gave his signature as an "X" and his mother, in turn, was a descendant of slave plantation owners in Barbados.
