John Anthony Derrington
John Anthony Derrington (24 December 1921 – 9 February 2008) was a British civil engineer. Biography Derrington was born in London.. He held a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and a Diploma of Imperial College. He was head of the design group at Sir Robert McAlpine and also wrote in the Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) regarding multi-story concrete construction. Affiliations and honours He was a fellow of the ICE, of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE; 1984–85), and of the Royal Academy of Engineering. He was elected president of the IStructE for the 1979–80 session, of the ICE for the 1984–85 session and of the Offshore Engineering Society for 1987–88. In the 1986 Birthday Honours, he was invested as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. Death Derrington lived in Rottingdean, East Sussex. He died on 9 February 2008 at the age of 86. Westminster Cathedral
Westminster Cathedral is the mother church of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It is the largest Catholic church in the UK and the seat of the Archbishop of Westminster. Donald Reeve
Donald Arthur David Reeve CBE (1923–1994) was a British civil engineer. Reeve was born in 1923 in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire. He became Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive of the Severn Trent Water Authority by 1985 when he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the Queen's Birthday Honours. Reeve was elected president of the Institution of Civil Engineers for the November 1985 to November 1986 session.. On 22 May 1986, he officially named a British Rail Class 47 locomotive (no. 47366) as ''The Institution of Civil Engineers'' at Liverpool Lime Street railway station. Locomotive 47366 was scrapped in 1999 but the name had been officially transferred to List of preserved British Rail Class 47 locomotives, locomotive number 47969, another British Rail Class 47, on 2 September 1991. This is a list of presidents of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). The president's role is to represent the institution and to promote the profession to the public. The first president was Thomas Telford who had the office bestowed upon him for life in recognition of his contributions to the civil engineering profession. It became a biennial office with the election of William Cubitt, Sir William Cubitt in 1849 and an annual office with the election of George Berkley (engineer), Sir George Berkley in 1891, which it has remained since. On 18 December 1956 Harold Gourley died just six weeks after assuming the office in November. Gourley was the first regularly elected president to die in office (Telford, who was elected president for life, died in office) and the ICE council, who were authorised to fill any vacancy except that of President, were forced to call a Special General Meeting of members. James Anthony "Tony" Gaffney, CBE, FICE, FREng, FCIHT (1928–2016) was a British civil engineer. Gaffney was born in the Rhymney Valley, South Wales in 1928 and holds BSc and DSc degrees.. He was the County Engineer for the West Riding of Yorkshire at the time of the construction of Scammonden Reservoir and M62 in the late 1960s. He was elected president of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation for the 1978-79 session and elected president of the Institution of Civil Engineers for the 1983-84 session.
