John Alexander Logan, Jr
John Alexander Logan Jr., born Manning Alexander Logan (July 24, 1865 – November 11, 1899), was a United States Army officer who posthumously received the Medal of Honor for actions during the Philippine–American War. Biography Logan was the son of Major General, statesman and politician John A. Logan and the writer, editor Mary Simmerson Cunningham Logan. He was a former cadet at West Point as a member of the class of 1887. Upon his father's death in 1886, Logan became a First Class Companion of the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States (MOLLUS), a military society of officers of the Union armed forces and their descendants. In 1894 he became a member of the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. In 1897, he became a Hereditary Companion of the District of Columbia Commandery of the Military Order of Foreign Wars (MOFW) by right of his father's service in the Mexican War. Carbondale, Illinois
Carbondale is a city in Jackson and Williamson Counties, Illinois, United States, within the Southern Illinois region informally known as "Little Egypt". The city developed from 1853 because of the stimulation of railroad construction into the area. Today the major roadways of Illinois Route 13 and U.S. Route 51 intersect in the city. The city is southeast of St. Louis, on the northern edge of the Shawnee National Forest. Carbondale is the home of the main campus of Southern Illinois University (SIU). The Mexican–American War, also known in the United States as the Mexican War and in Mexico as the (''United States intervention in Mexico''), was an armed conflict between the United States and Mexico from 1846 to 1848. It followed the 1845 American annexation of Texas, which Mexico still considered its territory. Mexico refused to recognize the Velasco treaty, because it was signed by President Antonio López de Santa Anna while he was captured by the Texan Army during the 1836 Texas Revolution. The Battle of San Jacinto ( fil, Labanan sa San Jacinto, es, Batalla de San Jacinto) was a battle during the Philippine–American War fought on November 11, 1899, in San Jacinto, Pangasinan, Philippines, between the Filipinos and the United States. Background During the fall of 1899, General Elwell S. Otis began a three-pronged offensive against the Filipinos north of Manila. General Arthur MacArthur's 2nd Division was moving north along the railroad running out of Manila, General Henry W. Lawton's 1st Division moved up the Pampanga River against San Isidro. The third expedition would be led by General Loyd Wheaton, commander of the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division. Wheaton's brigade was detached and landed at San Fabian on Lingayen Gulf.
