John Ainsworth (by 1523 – 1558 or 1559), of Pershore and Worcester, was an English politician. Biography Educated in Cambridge by 1522, obtained BA degree in 1526/1527. He held the offices of Member of the Twenty-Four, Worcester in 1544, auditor in 1547–1548, 1553–1554, chamberlain 1548–1549. Ainsworth may have promoted the Act setting aside a seven-year apprenticeship for clothiers in Worcester and other towns. Sir John Stirling Ainsworth (30 January 1844 – 24 May 1923) was an English industrialist, banker and Liberal politician. Family and education Ainsworth was the son of Thomas Ainsworth of Cleator Moor, Cumberland. His mother was Mary Laurie, daughter of John Stirling, a Doctor of Divinity from Craigie in East Ayrshire. Staff Sergeant James Harley Wallwork DFM (21 October 1919 – 24 January 2013) was a British soldier and a member of the Glider Pilot Regiment who achieved notability as the pilot of the first Horsa glider to land at Pegasus Bridge in the early hours of D-Day, 6 June 1944, during the Second World War. This achievement was described as "the greatest feat of flying of the second world war" by Air Chief Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory.After landing Wallwork was severely wounded in the head but managed to carry munition boxes up to the troops defending the canal bridge at Benouville (called 'Pegasus Bridge' some days after D-day by Royal Engineer-troops). Although most noted for his part in the Battle of Normandy, Wallwork flew gliders in every major British airborne operation of the Second World War. John Edgar Ainsworth (June 28, 1920 – September 30, 2004) was a physicist and polymath who worked for NASA. John Dawson Ainsworth (6 June 1864 – 31 March 1946) was a British administrator in East Africa who played a significant role in the development of the East Africa Protectorate. Early life Ainsworth was born in Urmston near Manchester, England in June 1864. His family relocated to Rhys in Wales and here he was educated privately. East Africa Ainsworth went to the Congo to trade, and in 1889 he joined the Imperial British East Africa Company (IBEAC) as the Principal Transport Officer.
