John Ahern (footballer)
John Ahern (born 10 September 1970) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Recruited from Melbourne High School Old Boys Association, Ahern made his VFL debut in round 1 in 1989 against Fitzroy, having eight disposals. Ahern was then dropped until round 22, the final round of the season, when he reappeared against Essendon.Holmesby & Main. Ahern played three further senior matches for Melbourne in 1990 before being traded to North Melbourne for Paul Bryce. Ahern did not player senior football for North Melbourne and was delisted at the end of the 1991 season. South Australian National Football League (SANFL) club Port Adelaide recruited Ahern but after an unsuccessful 1992 season Ahern retired from football. John Edward Ahern (December 4, 1934 – December 19, 2020) was an American politician of the Republican Party who served in the Washington House of Representatives, representing the 6th district from 2001 to 2009 and 2011 to 2013. Ahern was born in Havre, Montana, and lived with his family in Silver Springs, Maryland. He went to the University of Maryland and served in the United States Army Reserves. Ahern was a Catholic. He received his undergrad education from the University of Denver and had a law degree from Gonzaga University. He was involved with the office products and supplies business in Spokane, Washington. Bishop John J. Ahern DCL, STL, was an Irish Roman Catholic Bishop, who served as Bishop of Cloyne from 1957 until 1987. Born in 1911, a native of Leamlara, near Midleton, Co Cork, Dr Ahern was ordained in 1936. Dr Ahern was appointed professor of canon law at Maynooth College St Patrick's Pontifical University, Maynooth ( ga, Coláiste Naoimh Phádraig, Maigh Nuad), is the "National Seminary for Ireland" (a Roman Catholic college), and a pontifical university, located in the town of Maynooth, from Dublin, Ireland. ... in 1946 until 1956, when he was appointed to the see of Cloyne. He was a council father at the second vatican council. He retired as Bishop in 1987 and died on 25 September 1997. Bishop John Magee succeeded him at Cloyne.
