John Adams (born 1819)
John Adams (June 1, 1819October 18, 1908) was an American businessman, Democratic politician, and Wisconsin pioneer who served two years in the Wisconsin State Senate and three years in the State Assembly, representing eastern Dane County. Biography Adams was born in Pulaski County, Kentucky on June 1, 1819. He and a half-brother relocated to Indiana around 1832, then Illinois in 1837, and finally to Dodgeville, Wisconsin, where he was engaged in lead mining. Adams moved to Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, in 1849, to Black Earth, Wisconsin, in 1863, and later to Blanchardville, Wisconsin, where he built a grist mill. He moved to Pasadena, California in 1890. Adams married Eliza Blanchard (1832–1911) in 1846. His sons, Alva Adams and Billy Adams, became Governor of Colorado. One grandson, Alva B. Adams, became a member of the United States Senate. Blue Mounds is a village in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the village had a population of 948. The village is adjacent to the Town of Blue Mounds, and is part of the Madison Metropolitan Statistical Area. Blue Mounds was named by French missionaries for the blueish hue of three nearby mounds. The Town of Black Earth is located in Dane County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 510 at the 2020 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 17.3 square miles (44.8 km2), all of it land. History The Town of Black Earth was formed out of the Town of Springfield on August 2, 1848, as Farmersville. The town was renamed Black Earth on February 1, 1851. Much of the territory of the current towns of Berry and Mazomanie was originally part of Farmersville/Black Earth. Beloit, Wisconsin
Beloit is a city in Rock County, Wisconsin, United States. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 36,657 people. History Twelve men in Colebrook, New Hampshire, created the "New England Emigrating Company" in October 1836 and sent Horace White to find a suitable region of Wisconsin in which to settle. The level fields and the water power of Turtle Creek and "unlimited gravel" in the area around what is now Beloit fixed the site of the village and farms. White purchased the land. At the same time as the Colebrook settlers, six families from Bedford, New Hampshire, arrived and settled in the region. They said the Rock River Valley had a "New England look" that made them feel at home. The village was platted in 1838 and was planned with wide streets, building on the New England model.
