John A. Atwood
John A. Atwood (May 21, 1850–August 31, 1930) was an American businessman and politician. Atwood was born in the Province of Canada. He lived in Stillman Valley, Illinois and went to the public schools. He was involved in the insurance business. Atwood also worked as an embalmer in the funeral home business. He served as a township assessor and as a justice of the peace. Atwood served on the board of trustees for the State Training School for Girls in Geneva, Illinois. He was a Republican. Atwood served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1911 to 1917 and in the Illinois Senate from 1917 to 1921. Atwood was the editor and publisher of the Stillman Valley Graphic newspaper. Henry Andrus, who also served in the Illinois General Assembly, was Atwood's brother in law; Andrus's wife was Atwood's sister. Stillman Valley is a village in Marion Township, Ogle County, Illinois, United States. It lies east of Byron, south of Rockford and west of Davis Junction. The population was 1,120 at the 2010 census, up from 1,048 in 2000. The village is located on the Iowa, Chicago and Eastern Railroad, on the old Chicago Great Western Railway before it merged and was pulled up. Also, Illinois Route 72 runs through the village. Henry Andrus
Henry Andrus (November 4, 1844 – February 2, 1935) was an American politician from Illinois. Born and raised in Winnebago County, Illinois, Andrus spent his whole life in the county. He originally helped on his family's farm, then started his own. The success of the farm led to his election to the county board of supervisors. In 1896, he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives, then continued to the Illinois Senate. He served in the upper house from 1900 to 1904, then again from 1908 to 1916. Biography Henry Andrus was born in Harlem Township, Winnebago County, Illinois, on November 4, 1844. He attended public schools and assisted on the family farm.
