Johannes Miller House
The Johannes Miller House is a Registered Historic Place in the Orange County, New York, Town of Montgomery. It is located on NY 211 just opposite its junction with NY 416 and another Registered Historic Place, the Harrison Meeting House Site and Cemetery. Orange County Airport is nearby. It was built originally as a Georgian in 1771 by Hans Smith, one of the early German settlers of the town. Twenty years later, Miller, a prosperous local businessman, acquired it and rebuilt it in the Federal style. Montgomery (town), New York
Montgomery is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 23,322 at the 2020 census. It was named in honor of Richard Montgomery, a Revolutionary War general killed in 1775 at the Battle of Quebec. The northern town line is contiguous with the Ulster County border. Montgomery is immediately west of the town of Newburgh. Within its borders are three villages, one eponymous, as well as Walden and most of Maybrook. History The early town began as a patent to Henry Wileman in 1710, who was the first settler. He was the first of a group of Palatine Germans to emigrate and settle land around what is now the village of Montgomery. The town was originally established as Hanover in 1772, but became the town of Montgomery in 1782. New York State Route 416
New York State Route 416 (NY 416) is a state highway located entirely within the towns of Hamptonburgh and Montgomery in Orange County, New York, in the United States. It extends for in a north–south direction from an intersection with NY 207 in Hamptonburgh to a junction with NY 211 in Montgomery. It does not intersect any other state routes besides those at its termini, nor pass through any settlements. NY 416 is a two-lane highway for its entire length, and mainly serves to allow traffic from the northwestern corner of the county to get to Goshen, the county seat, more easily. New York's Orange County Airport is an untowered airport located one nautical mile (2 km) southwest of the village of Montgomery, in the Town of Montgomery, United States, at the junction of state highways 211 and 416.. Federal Aviation Administration. Effective November 15, 2012. It is owned and operated by Orange County. It is included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2011–2015, which categorized it as a ''general aviation'' facility. It is a popular place for aspiring local pilots to learn to fly or practice their skills. With 125,000 takeoffs and landings annually, it was New York's second-busiest general-aviation airport in 2006. Transmissions between pilots and the airport are rebroadcast on a one-watt station at 88.1 megahertz, so it is possible to tune into them on a standard car radio while driving in the vicinity. Harrison Meeting House Site And Cemetery
The Harrison Meeting House Site and Cemetery, also known as the Germantown Church Site and Cemetery or just the Germantown Cemetery, is located on New York State Route 416 (NY 416) right at its northern terminus with NY 211, across from Orange County Airport just outside the village of Montgomery, New York. ''Note:'' This includes an''Accompanying photographs''/ref> The first settlers of what would eventually become the Town of Montgomery came here and built their church on this site in the early 18th century. It would later be surrounded with their houses. The church no longer stands, but several of those early settlers are buried within the stone wall around the site. The Town of Montgomery has taken possession after the site was restored from past neglect and added a small interpretive plaque. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. New York State Route 211
New York State Route 211 (NY 211) is a state highway located entirely within Orange County, New York, in the United States. The western terminus is at the intersection with US 209 located in Cuddebackville, and the eastern terminus is located at Montgomery at NY 17K, where it becomes the main thoroughfare. Through Middletown, it briefly becomes a divided highway with a maximum of five lanes in each direction (a total of ten lanes). It was also through Middletown that the famed "Miracle Mile" was born, which was the beginning of the shopping center frenzy that saw many businesses move from downtown areas of Middletown to the Route 211 Shopping Corridor.
