Johannes Maria Staud
Johannes Maria Staud (born 17 August 1974) is an Austrian composer. Biography Staud was born in Innsbruck and studied with, among others, Brian Ferneyhough and Michael Jarrell (at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna). In 1999/2000 Staud was fellow of the Alban Berg Foundation. He gained a publishing contract with Universal Edition in 2000. He was co-founder of the composers group ''Gegenklang'' in Vienna. His ''Apeiron. Music for Large Orchestra'' was premiered by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra under Sir Simon Rattle in 2005, and his ''Segue. Music for Violoncello and Orchestra'' was performed by Heinrich Schiff and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Daniel Barenboim at the opening concert of the 2006 Salzburg Festival. Ernst Von Siemens Music Prize
The Ernst von Siemens Music Prize (short: Siemens Music Prize, german: link=no, Ernst von Siemens Musikpreis) is an annual music prize given by the Bayerische Akademie der Schönen Künste (Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts) on behalf of the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung (Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation), established in 1972. The foundation was established by Ernst von Siemens (1903–1990) and promotes contemporary music. The prize honors a composer, performer, or musicologist who has made a distinguished contribution to the world of music. In addition to the main prize, other prizes are also given. The total prize money given is currently 3.5 million euros, with the winner of the main prize receiving €250,000. The prize is sometimes known as "the Nobel Prize of music". Marcus Weiss
Marcus Weiss (born 1961 in Basel, Switzerland) is a saxophonist and teacher. His repertoire includes all epochs, from the beginnings in impressionistic France to the present. As a soloist, Weiss worked with many European orchestras and ensembles of contemporary music. He has been invited to major festivals in Europe, the US and Asia. As a chamber musician, Weiss is primarily working with his two ensembles, Trio Accanto ( Nicolas Hodges, piano and Christian Dierstein percussion) and Quatuor Xasax in Paris (with saxophonists Serge Bertocchi, Jean-Michel Goury and Pierre-Stéphane Meugé. Since 1995 he has taught saxophone and chamber music at the Hochschule für Musik Basel, where he also directs a Masters program for contemporary music. Ingo Metzmacher
Ingo Metzmacher (born 10 November 1957 in Hanover) is a German conductor and artistic director of the festival KunstFestSpiele Herrenhausen in Hanover. Life Ingo Metzmacher is the son of the cellist Rudolf Metzmacher and the research biologist Lore Schoen. His musical education in piano, music theory and conducting was in Hanover, Salzburg and Cologne. He later joined the Ensemble Modern in 1980 as its pianist and became the orchestra's conductor in 1985. In 1987 he gave his opera debut at the Opera Frankfurt. In 1994 Metzmacher conducted the premiere of the revised version of Hans Werner Henze's Symphony No. 6. In 1997 he conducted the world premiere of Henze's Symphony No. 9 at the composer's request. Vienna State Opera
The Vienna State Opera (, ) is an opera house and opera company based in Vienna, Austria. The 1,709-seat Renaissance Revival venue was the first major building on the Vienna Ring Road. It was built from 1861 to 1869 following plans by August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, and designs by Josef Hlávka. The opera house was inaugurated as the "Vienna Court Opera" (''Wiener Hofoper'') in the presence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Durs Grünbein
Durs Grünbein (born 1962) is a German poet and essayist. Life and career Durs Grünbein was born and grew up in Dresden. He studied Theater Studies in East Berlin, to which he moved in 1985. Since the Peaceful Revolution nonviolently toppled the Berlin Wall and Communism in the German Democratic Republic in 1989, Grünbein has traveled widely in Europe, South-West Asia, and North America, and sojourned in various places, including Amsterdam, Paris, London, Vienna, Toronto, Los Angeles, New York City, and St. Louis.
