Johann Karl Auerbach
Karl Auerbach (1723 – c.1786) was an Austrian painter. The son of Johann Gottfried Auerbach, he was born at Vienna, and became, under his father's instruction, a talented painter of portraits and history. The cathedral of St. Stephen in Vienna possesses an altar-piece and a ceilingpainting by him. Johann Gottfried Auerbach (28 October 1697 – 5 August 1753) was an Austrian painter and etcher. He painted primarily portraits and battle genre works. Some of his works can be found at the Kunsthistorisches Museum. In 1735, he was appointed Imperial Court Painter by Emperor Charles VI. In 1750, he became a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. In: . An altarpiece is an artwork such as a painting, sculpture or relief representing a religious subject made for placing at the back of or behind the altar of a Christian church. Though most commonly used for a single work of art such as a painting or sculpture, or a set of them, the word can also be used of the whole ensemble behind an altar, otherwise known as a reredos, including what is often an elaborate frame for the central image or images. Schloss Hetzendorf
''Schloss Hetzendorf'' is a baroque palace in Hetzendorf, Meidling, Vienna, that was used by the imperial Habsburg family. History The building was originally a hunting lodge. It was refashioned by the architect Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt. Empress Maria Theresa had it enlarged in 1743 by Nicolò Pacassi for her mother, Empress Elizabeth Christine, who lived here from 1743 until her death in 1750. A prominent feature of the palace is the entrance hall. It was here that Maria Carolina of Austria, Queen of Naples, died in 1814. She was the favourite sister of Marie Antoinette. The youngest daughter of Emperor Francis II, Archduchess Maria Anna, lived here from 1835 until her death in 1858.
