Johann Georg Schwartze
Johann Georg Schwartze (20 October 1814 - 28 August 1874) was a painter from the Northern Netherlands who grew up in Philadelphia and was trained in Düsseldorf and the Düsseldorf school. He was a painter of portraits and historical themes and became the father of painter Therese Schwartze and the sculptor Georgine Schwartze. At the age of three his family left Amsterdam for Philadelphia, where his father began a paint and varnish factory.Johann Georg Schwartze in the RKD There the young Johann was taught by Emanuel Leutze. In 1838 he returned to Europe and spent six years at the Düsseldorf Academy under Von Schadow and Sohn. At the same time, he took private lessons from the landscape-painter Lessing. Thérèse Ansingh who used the pseudonym Sorella (1883-1968) was a Dutch artist. Biography Ansingh was born on 9 July 1883 in Amsterdam. She was a member of an artistic family. She was the granddaughter of the painter Johan Georg Schwartze. Her parents were Clara Theresia Schwartze and Edzard Willem Ansingh. Arti et Amicitiae (lat .: For Art and Friendship) is a Dutch artist's society founded in 1839, and located on the Rokin in Amsterdam. The Society (also called Arti for short) has played a key role in the Netherlands art scene and in particular in the Amsterdam art schools. It was and is to this day a hub for artists and art lovers in the city of Amsterdam. It is a private institution which supports artists, maintains social networks and offers a pension fund. The Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten (State Academy of Fine Arts) was founded in 1870 in Amsterdam. It is a classical academy, a place where philosophers, academics and artists meet to test and exchange ideas and knowledge. The school supports visual artists with a two-year curriculum. Maria Elisabeth Georgina Ansingh (13 March 1875 – 14 December 1959) was a Dutch painter. Ansingh belonged to a group of female post-impressionist painters influenced by the Amsterdam Impressionism movement called the ''Amsterdamse Joffers''. She was also a member of the (still existing) Amsterdam art circles ''Arti et Amicitiae'' and ''Sint Lucas''. She died in Amsterdam on 14 December 1959. Biography Lizzy Ansingh was born in Utrecht.
