Joe W. Davis
Joe William Davis (October 22, 1918 – November 14, 1992) was an American politician who served as mayor of Huntsville, Alabama, for five consecutive terms from 1968 to 1988. He unsuccessfully sought a sixth term. Davis is the second-longest-serving mayor of Huntsville, behind only Alex W. McAllister. Born in nearby New Market, Alabama, Davis had worked as a teacher and a businessman before becoming Huntsville's mayor. He was a veteran of World War II. Glenn Hearn
Glenn Hubbard Hearn (April 17, 1914 – January 7, 1978) was an American politician who served as mayor of Huntsville, Alabama, from 1964 to 1968. He also served as a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1941 until becoming mayor, and as the senior agent in charge of the North Alabama division since 1944. During Hearn's term as mayor, the City of Huntsville grew in land area by approximately 40% to 106.803 square miles. However, during his term, Hearn seemed more interested in public relations than the administrative aspects of his office. After declining to seek re-election following his first term, his administrative assistant Joe Davis successfully ran for mayor. Hearn served in the state legislature from 1970 to 1974. Huntsville Stars
The Huntsville Stars were a Minor League Baseball team that played in Huntsville, Alabama, from 1985 to 2014. They competed in the Southern League as the Double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's Oakland Athletics from 1985 to 1998 and Milwaukee Brewers from 1999 to 2014. The Stars played their home games at Joe W. Davis Stadium and were named for the space industry with which Huntsville is economically tied (NASA conducts operations at the nearby Marshall Space Flight Center). Huntsville is a city in Madison County, Limestone County, and Morgan County, Alabama, United States. It is the county seat of Madison County. Located in the Appalachian region of northern Alabama, Huntsville is the most populous city in the state. Huntsville was founded within the Mississippi Territory in 1805 and became an incorporated town in 1811. When Alabama was admitted as a state in 1819, Huntsville was designated for a year as the first capital, before that was moved to more central settlements. Stephen Ray "Steve" Hettinger (born August 25, 1945) is an American politician who served as mayor of Huntsville, Alabama from 1988 to 1996. During this period, Hettinger became particularly involved in leading the recovery of the city in the aftermath of the Huntsville Tornado of 1989. Early life Stephen Ray Hettinger was born on August 25, 1945 in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from Mississippi State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in 1967, and moved to Huntsville, Alabama shortly after. Hettinger worked in the space program while studying towards a Master of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, which he received in 1974.
