Joseph Bryan Thompson (April 29, 1871 – September 18, 1919) was an American politician and a U.S. Representative from Oklahoma. Biography Born near Sherman, Texas, Thompson attended the public schools, and was graduated from Savoy College in Fannin County, Texas, in 1890. He studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1892 and commenced practice in Purcell, Indian Territory. He moved to Ardmore, Indian Territory. Thompson married Mary Miller, and they raised two sons, James Miller Thompson and Joseph B. Thompson, Jr. Career Appointed commissioner for the United States court in 1893, Thompson returned to Purcell, Indian Territory. Joseph Thompson (died 1719) was a pirate from Trinidad, Cuba, and was active in the Caribbean. He is primarily known for a single incident involving grenades. History Thompson was among 209 pirates on New Providence who declared to Captain Vincent Pearse their intention to accept a 1718 offer of amnesty and pardon. Along with Charles Vane and a few others, he soon returned to piracy. After picking up additional crew for his sloop ''Eagle'' (some of whom had served with William Moody), he captured and looted several ships in the vicinity. In December 1718 in full view of Port Royal Thompson captured a ship called ''Kingston'' whose cargo was worth over £20,000. The ship's owners complained to Jamaican Governor Nicholas Lawes, but there were no Royal Navy warships available. Joseph Aquiler Thompson (December 9, 1918 – February 20, 2012) was an American old-time fiddle, old-time fiddle player, and one of the last musicians to carry on the black string band tradition. Accompanied by his cousin Odell, Thompson was recognized with several honors for performances of the old-time style, particularly when the genre was repopularized in the 1970s. In the 1980s and 1990s, he recorded his first studio albums, consisting of a repertoire rooted in the authentic string band approach. Joseph Elijah Thompson (July 19, 1867 – March 16, 1941) was speaker of the Legislature of Ontario from 1924 to 1926 and served as Conservative MLA for St. David and Toronto Northeast from 1919 to 1929. This was the period of the Ontario Liberal Conservative Party's rule under Howard Ferguson. Thompson was born in Toronto, the son of Joseph Thompson, and grew up in Toronto's Cabbagetown neighbourhood. He was educated at Dufferin School and Jarvis Collegiate. Dr. Joseph Thompson (September 29, 1797 in Spartanburg County, South Carolina – August 21, 1885) was an early settler of Atlanta, Georgia, doctor, hotelier, and real-estate investor. Biography Beginnings Born to a Pennsylvania-bred family in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, he practiced medicine as a youth. He moved to the new town of Decatur, where he married Mary Ann Tomlinson Young in 1827. He ran a stagecoach between the state capital, Milledgeville, and Tuscumbia, Alabama, by way of Decatur, where he kept an inn. He was an important man in town, friend of Judge William Ezzard and John Glen (both future mayors of Atlanta), and was entrusted by the citizenry to make sure that the terminus of the Western & Atlantic Railroad not be their little town.
