Joseph Taylor (died 19 November 1859, Bombay), was a London Missionary Society missionary in Gujarat. Joseph Taylor may have been the son of the first LMS missionary in Gujarat, John Taylor M.D., later surgeon in Bombay. He was father of J. V. S. Taylor of the Irish Presbyterian Mission, translator of the Bible into Gujarati, and grandfather of George Pritchard Taylor the grammarian of Gujarati language. Joseph Deems Taylor (December 22, 1885 – July 3, 1966) was an American music critic, composer, and promoter of classical music. Nat Benchley, co-editor of ''The Lost Algonquin Roundtable'', referred to him as "the dean of American music." Early life and family Deems Taylor was born in New York City to JoJo and Katherine Taylor. He attended Ethical Culture Elementary School, followed by New York University. Taylor married three times. His first wife was Jane Anderson. They were married in 1910, but divorced in 1918. In 1921, he married Mary Kennedy, who was an actress and a writer. They had a daughter, Joan Kennedy Taylor, in 1926, and divorced in 1934. He was involved romantically with soprano Colette D'Arville after his divorce. Joseph Taylor (3 May 1858 – 24 July 1942) was an English-born mining engineer and Unitarian minister. After emigrating to New Zealand in 1894, he discovered a coal field and established a coal mine at Pūponga in Golden Bay. In 1902, he was sentenced to two years' imprisonment for fraudulently altering his mining company's books of account. Early life Taylor was born in Audley, Staffordshire, England, in 1858, the son of George Taylor and Martha Dodd. His father was a coal miner who later became a farmer. As a youth, Joseph Taylor worked in the coal mine where his father was foreman. On 3 May 1883 (his 25th birthday), Taylor married Annie Emery (1857–1942); they would go on to have four sons and two daughters. Joseph Taylor (10 September 18334 May 1910), was a folk singer from Saxby-All-Saints, Lincolnshire, England, who became the first English folk singer to be commercially recorded after coming to the attention of the composer and musicologist Percy Grainger. He popularised obscure and unique songs including "Brigg Fair", "Rufford Park Poachers" and "The White Hare", and sang influential versions of well-known songs and ballads such as " Lord Bateman" and "The Sprig of Thyme". His songs were arranged by classical composers including Grainger and Frederick Delius, and recorded by folk revival musicians beginning in the British folk revival of the 1960s. Joseph Hooton Taylor Jr. (born March 29, 1941) is an American astrophysicist and Nobel Prize laureate in Physics for his discovery with Russell Alan Hulse of a "new type of pulsar, a discovery that has opened up new possibilities for the study of gravitation."
