Joe Skibinski
Joseph John Skibinski (December 23, 1928 – August 18, 2015) was an American football guard who played in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted in the fifteenth round of the 1951 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns and later played with the team during the 1952 NFL season. After two years away from the NFL, he played with the Green Bay Packers for two seasons. He was voted 2nd Team All-Big Ten following the 1951 season. Following his NFL career, he became a high school educator and coach in his native Illinois. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. The Purdue Boilermakers football team represents Purdue University in the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of college football. United States Football League
The United States Football League (USFL) was a professional American football league that played for three seasons, 1983 through 1985. The league played a spring/summer schedule in each of its active seasons. The 1986 season was scheduled to be played in the autumn/winter, directly competing against the long-established National Football League (NFL). However, the USFL ceased operations before that season was scheduled to begin. The ideas behind the USFL were conceived in 1965 by New Orleans businessman David Dixon, who saw a market for a professional football league that would play in the summer, when the National Football League and college football were in their off-season. Dixon had been a key player in the construction of the Louisiana Superdome and the expansion of the NFL into New Orleans in 1967. John Skibinski
John Skibinski (born April 27, 1955) is a former running back who played in the National Football League (NFL). He was drafted in the sixth round of the 1978 NFL draft by the Chicago Bears. His NFL career was spent with the Chicago Bears. and ran from 1978 to 1981. He spent the 1982 season out of professional football before returning to the game via the USFL; he played in the 1983 & 1984 seasons as a member of the Birmingham Stallions and Jacksonville Bulls, respectively. He carried the ball sparingly during the 1975 season, as Mike Pruitt was the main threat for the Boilermakers but Hall of Fame coach Alex Agase saw his potential. In 1976, he was part of a power backfield with Scott Dierking. As the 1977 season approached, Agase had been replaced by Jim Young, Dierking had graduated and moved on to the NFL and the highly touted Freshman Mark Herrmann was taking over at QB. 1952 NFL Season
The 1952 NFL season was the 33rd regular season of the National Football League. Prior to the season, the legacy of the Dayton Triangles, the final remaining Ohio League member and the franchise then known as the New York Yanks owner Ted Collins sold his team back to the NFL. A few days later, a new team was then awarded to an ownership group in Dallas, Texas, after it purchased the assets of the Yanks. However, the new Dallas Texans went and were sold back to the league midway through the season. For the team's last five games, the league operated the Texans as a road team, with the franchise "returning to its roots" as a traveling team just as they were in the 1920s when they were known as the Dayton Triangles, with them becoming the final traveling team to date in NFL history, using Hershey, Pennsylvania, as a home base. The 1951 National Football League Draft was held January 18–19, 1951, at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago. The Baltimore Colts folded after the 1950 season, and the NFL placed their players in the 1951 NFL draft.
