Joe Sanders
Joseph L. Sanders (October 26, 1896, Thayer, Kansas - May 14, 1965, Kansas City, Missouri) was an American jazz pianist, singer, and band leader associated with Kansas City jazz for most of his career. Sanders was best known for co-leading the Coon-Sanders' Nighthawks along with Carleton Coon (1894–1932). The pair formed the group in 1920 in Kansas City under the name Coon-Sanders Novelty Orchestra, broadcast for the first time on radio the following year, and became known as the Nighthawks because of their frequent appearances on late night radio. They recorded in Chicago in 1924 and held a residency at the Blackhawk club in that city from 1926. The ensemble toured as a Midwestern territory band, and after Coon's death Sanders continued to lead the band under his own name. Thayer is a city in Neosho County, Kansas, United States. As of the 2020 census, the population of the city was 432. History Thayer was laid out in the fall of 1870 when the railroad was extended to that point. It was named for Nathaniel Thayer, a railroad employee. John Chilton
John James Chilton (16 July 1932 – 25 February 2016) was a British jazz trumpeter and writer. During the 1960s, he also worked with pop bands, including The Swinging Blue Jeans and The Escorts. He won a Grammy Award for Best Album Notes in 1983. Biography Chilton was born in London on 16 July 1932, to working-class parents (his father was a musical hall comedian) and was evacuated to Northamptonshire, where he began playing the cornet at the age of 12. He switched to trumpet at 17 and after doing national service in the RAF (1950–1952) he formed his own jazz band, playing at Butlins. He worked in Bruce Turner's Jump Band from 1958 to 1963. A film of their exploits called ''Living Jazz'' (1961) was made by director Jack Gold. Chilton later appeared in Alex Welsh's Big Band.
