Joseph Richardson (American Politician)
Joseph Richardson (February 1, 1778 – September 25, 1871) was a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts. Born in Billerica, Massachusetts, Richardson attended public and private schools. He was graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, in 1802. He was a teacher in Charlestown 1804-1806. He studied theology and was ordained a minister and assigned to the first parish of the Unitarian Church in Hingham on July 2, 1806. He served as delegate to the state constitutional convention in 1820. He served as member of the state house of representatives in 1821 and 1822. He served in the state senate in 1823, 1824, and 1826. Richardson was elected as an Adams candidate to the Twentieth Congress and reelected as an Anti-Jacksonian to the Twenty-first Congresses (March 4, 1827 – March 3, 1831). Joseph Richardson (1830 – 25 September 1902) was a Liberal Party politician in England. Career Richardson was a son of Caleb Richardson, a member of an old Quaker family. He had several brothers, including Edwin Richardson (d.1902) and Stansfield Richardson, who both served as Mayors of Sunderland. Richardson was head of the firm of Messrs. Richardson, Duck and Company, one of the chief shipbuilding firms on the Tees River, which in 1852 turned out the first two iron vessels launched on the river. He was also largely interested in the Durham collieries and iron works. Richardson was five times Mayor of the borough of Stockton-on-Tees, including on his death in 1902. He was a Deputy Lieutenant of Durham and a Vice-Chairman of the Durham County Council. Joseph Richardson (1755–1803) was an English author and politician. Life Born at Hexham, Northumberland, he was the only child of Joseph Richardson, a tradesman there. He was educated at Haydon Bridge school, and admitted sizar at St John's College, Cambridge, on 4 July 1774. His father's means were insufficient for the complete education of his son, and the cost of his residence at college was borne by a titled lady of Northumberland who discovered his talents, but in 1778 she cut off her contributions. Although he was readmitted as pensioner on 25 September 1780, he left the university without taking a degree. Richardson, intended as he was for the church, entered the Middle Temple on 24 March 1781, where he was duly called to the bar. In London he in fact concentrated on journalism, and after appearing as counsel in a few contested election petitions, gave up the legal profession. Joseph Richardson was born approx. 1792 in Cumberland, the eldest child of John Richardson (abt. 1762-1839) and Dinah Williamson (abt. 1768-1852). John and Dinah had married at Great Crosthwaite on 5 September 1791. Joseph’s young years were spent at Keswick, where his father was a miller. The Richardsons owned the Low Corn Mill beside the River Greta. After John’s death in 1839, Dinah lived with her second eldest child, Jonathan, and his family at Applethwaite. When Jonathan remarried she moved to a cottage in the village just a few doors away from where Joseph was living with his wife and family. She passed away on 29 February 1852. Joseph Richardson (24 August 1908 – 1977) was an English professional footballer who played as a right back. Richardson joined Blyth Spartans from local side New Delaval Villa. His form with Spartans was impressive enough to earn a £250 move to Newcastle United Newcastle United Football Club is an English professional football club, based in Newcastle upon Tyne, that plays in the Premier League – the top flight of English football. The club was founded in 1892 by the merger of Newcastle East End ... in 1929.
