Joe Payne (footballer, Born 1914)
Joseph Payne (17 January 1914 – 22 April 1975) was an England international footballer, best known as the scorer of 10 goals in a match for Luton Town against Bristol Rovers on 13 April 1936. This is still a record in The Football League. Payne later played for Chelsea and, after missing six years of his career to the Second World War, West Ham United. Playing career Payne was born in Brimington Common near Chesterfield, and worked as a coalminer as a teenager. He was spotted playing as a centre-forward for Bolsover Colliery and signed by Luton Town in 1934. There, he played mostly for the reserve team as a half-back, and spent time on loan to Biggleswade Town. Payne made his League debut for Luton on 29 December 1934, against Southend United, and he made one further appearance during his initial season. Joseph Payne (2 March 1808 in Bury St Edmunds – 30 April 1876 in Bayswater) was an English educationalist and the first Professor of Education at the College of Preceptors in London. Early life Payne was born in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. He came to prominence as one of the most vocal adherents of the methods of Joseph Jacotot in England, publishing in 1830 an exposition of Jacotot's methods and lecturing to other teachers about education while teaching at a school in the New Kent Road, London. In 1838 he established Denmark Hill Grammar School with David Fletcher. Career In 1845 he opened the Mansion grammar school, at Leatherhead in Surrey. The school was very successful in exams and followed a detailed curriculum. Initially the pupils studied spelling and writing, history and geography, French, word and object lessons, arithmetic. Joseph Frank Payne (1840–1910) was an English physician, known also as a historian of medicine. Life The son of Joseph Payne, a schoolmaster, and his wife Eliza Dyer who was also a teacher, he was born in the parish of St. Giles, Camberwell, on 10 Jan. 1840. After a school education under his father at Leatherhead, Surrey, he went to University College, London; and then gained in 1858 a demyship at Magdalen College, Oxford. He graduated B.A. in 1862, taking a first class in natural science, and afterwards obtained the Burdett-Coutts scholarship in geology (1863), the Radcliffe travelling fellowship (1865), and a fellowship at Magdalen, which he vacated on his marriage in 1883, becoming an honorary fellow on 30 May 1906. Joseph Reece Payne (October 12, 1984 – January 24, 2020) was an American heavy metal bassist and guitarist. He was born in Tampa, Florida, United States. Until 2011, Payne played bass in the heavy metal band Divine Heresy; with Fear Factory guitarist Dino Cazares, vocalist Travis Neal and ex-Vital Remains and Hate Eternal drummer Tim Yeung. Payne joined death metal band Nile in early 2005 for their American and European tours, after learning eleven Nile songs in only three days. In February 2007, Karl Sanders confirmed that Payne had been fired by the band in a posting on the band's message board. stating, "I guess I have to spell it out. Yes, Joe is fired."
