Joe James (footballer)
Joseph James (13 January 1910 – January 1993) was an English professional footballer who played in the Football League for Brentford as a centre half. In 2013, James placed third in a Football League 125th Anniversary poll of Brentford's best ever captains. He is a member of the Brentford Hall of Fame and made over 250 appearances for the club. Career Early years Born in Battersea, James began playing football as a youth for local club Battersea Church. Brentford James appeared in a friendly match for Third Division South club Brentford in August 1928 and impressed manager Harry Curtis. Though not awarded a contract, James became the assistant groundsman at the club's Griffin Park stadium. In August 1929, James was offered a contract and turned professional. Beginning life in the reserve team, he was a part of the team which won the London Combination title in the 1931–32 and 1932–33 seasons. Joe "Joey" James (born March 12, 1961) is a retired U.S. soccer defender who played professionally in the Major Indoor Soccer League and Western Soccer Alliance. James, the brother of Bernie James, was born in England, but grew up in Bellevue, Washington. He graduated from O'Dea High School where he was a 1979 Parade Magazine High School Soccer All American. He then attended the University of Tampa where he played on the men's soccer team from 1979 to 1980. In 1981, James entered the North American Soccer League draft. The Portland Timbers selected him in the third round, but he never played for the Timbers. In the fall of 1981, he signed with the Phoenix Inferno of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Blitz Kids (band)
Blitz Kids were an English alternative rock band originating from Nantwich and Crewe, Cheshire, England. History The band was formed in 2006 by original members Joe James, Jono Yates, Nic Montgomery, Billy Evanson and Eddie Hawx. The band was initially named "Rig Up Explosive", but the name was changed to Blitz Kids in 2009. The name meaning was explained to be inspired by Joe's grandfather who was in a gang who named themselves 'Blitz Kids' during the events of World War II. The band released two EPs on LAB Records, ''Scavengers'' and ''Decisions'', prior to their debut album ''Vagrants and Vagabonds''. Evanson and Hawx left the band because of personal issues in 2012. The Preservation Hall Jazz Band is a New Orleans jazz band founded in New Orleans by tuba player Allan Jaffe in the early 1960s. The band derives its name from Preservation Hall in the French Quarter. In 2005, the Hall's doors were closed for a period of time due to Hurricane Katrina, but the band continued to tour. Early years In the 1950s, Larry Borenstein, an art dealer from Milwaukee, managed Preservation Hall in the French Quarter as an art gallery. To attract customers, he invited local New Orleans jazz musicians to play. After their honeymoon in 1961, Allan Jaffe and his wife Sandra visited to hear some traditional New Orleans jazz. Joseph Caulfeild James (6 July 1860 – 6 July 1925) was an English teacher from Birkenhead, England. He was the principal tutor to Prince Vajiravudh of Siam, who later became king of Siam. Royal tutor Caulfeild James, an Englishman of Irish descent, arrived in Bangkok in 1887 for a position teaching English at Assumption College. After a short period there, he was engaged inside the Grand Palace as the full-time English tutor to three princes; Prince Vajiravudh, Prince Chakrabongse Bhuvanath and Prince Nandiyavat Svasti. Joseph Stephen James, of Douglasville, Georgia, was a lawyer, community leader, shape note singer, composer, and a reviser of the tunebook known as ''The Sacred Harp''. Life Joe S. James was born March 20, 1849, in Campbell County (now in Douglas County), the son of Stephen and Martha (Shipleigh) James. He was an attorney and was active in local civic and political life. He was the first mayor of Douglasville, was instrumental in the establishment of Douglasville College, in obtaining the city's first water and phone systems, and in bringing several industries to the city.
