Joseph Fox The Younger
Joseph Fox (1758 – 25 February 1832) was an English apothecary and physician. Life He was the son of Joseph Fox the elder, and his wife Elizabeth Hingston; and the brother of Edward Long Fox. Another brother, Richard Fox M.D. of Falmouth (1764–1841), was another physician, and he had a physician son Joseph Fox M.D. of Falmouth, who is therefore possible to confuse with the Joseph Fox who died in 1832. Fox, after practicing in Falmouth for some years as an apothecary, "acquired by marriage and his profession a small independence" and decided to try his fortune in London as a physician. He studied at Edinburgh and in 1783 graduated M.D. at St. Andrews. Settling in London, he was admitted L.R.C.P. in 1788, and in 1789 was elected physician to the London Hospital. In 1792 the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh made him a fellow. When Fox settled among them, Londoners of the Society of Friends were helpful. The Province of Pennsylvania, also known as the Pennsylvania Colony, was a British North American colony founded by William Penn after receiving a land grant from Charles II of England in 1681. The name Pennsylvania ("Penn's Woods") refers to William's father, Admiral Sir William Penn. The Province of Pennsylvania was one of the two major Restoration colonies. The proprietary colony's charter remained in the hands of the Penn family until they were ousted by the American Revolution, when the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was created and became one of the original thirteen states. Joseph Fox (dental Surgeon)
Joseph Fox (7 November 1775 – 11 April 1816) was an English dental surgeon, known also as a philanthropist. He was a pioneer writer and lecturer on dentistry. Early life He was the son of Joseph Fox, a dentist, and his wife, Mary Rogers, daughter of John Rogers, a Baptist minister of Southwark, and was born in Crooked Lane, in the City of London. A medical student at Guy's Hospital by 1794, he became dresser to the surgeon Henry Cline. The lectures he gave on the teeth, from 1799, supported by Astley Cooper who was another of Cline's pupils, were the first to be delivered for a London medical institution. According to the ''Oxford Dictionary of National Biography'', there was no British precedent, and possibly none worldwide. Fox built up a private dental practice in London. Joseph John Fox (August 2, 1855 – March 14, 1915) was an American prelate of the Roman Catholic Church who served as bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay in Wisconsin from 1904 until his death in 1914. Biography Early life Joseph Fox was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin, to Paul and Frances (née Bartel) Fox, who were German immigrants. He received his early education at the parochial school of the Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier in his native city. He made his classical studies at St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee from 1870 to 1875. He then studied philosophy and theology at the American College of Louvain in Leuven, Belgium. Priesthood While in Belgium, Fox was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Green Bay on June 7, 1879. Joe Fox (8 February 1894 – 2 April 1965), also known as Joey Fox and in the early part of his career Young Fox, was a British Boxing, boxer who was British bantamweight champion between 1915 and 1918, and British featherweight champion between 1921 and 1924. Career Born in Leeds, Joe Fox's earliest recorded fight was in June 1909. In January 1911 he beat former English and World champion Harry McDermott at the National Sporting Club. Between 1911 and 1913 he fought the likes of Alex Lafferty (loss), Johnny Curran (boxer), Johnny Curran (two wins, one draw), and Bill Ladbury (two losses, one win). In December 1913 he travelled to the United States where he fought eleven times over the next eighteen months, winning nine but losing to Frankie Burns and Eddie Campi.
