Joe Colone
Joseph F. "Bells" Colone (January 23, 1924 – July 1, 2009) was an American professional basketball player for the New York Knicks. Early life Colone attended Berwick Area Senior High School, Berwick High School in Berwick, Pennsylvania and then played basketball collegiately at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, Bloomsburg State Teachers College (now named Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania). Professional career He was not drafted into the NBA but still managed to make the Knicks' roster for the 1948-49 NBA season, 1948–49 season. At 6 feet 5 inches tall and 210 pounds, Joe played the forward (basketball), forward position. He only played for one season in the NBA and appeared in 15 games while averaging 5.5 points. American football (referred to simply as football in the United States and Canada), also known as gridiron, is a team sport played by two teams of eleven players on a rectangular field with goalposts at each end. 1948–49 New York Knicks Season
The 1948–49 New York Knicks season was the third season for the team in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which later became the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Knicks had a 32–28 record in 1948–49 and finished second in the Eastern Division, six games behind the Washington Capitols. New York qualified for the playoffs, and defeated the Baltimore Bullets 2–1 in a best-of-three series to earn a place in the Eastern Division Finals. In the division championship series, the Knicks lost to the Capitols, two games to one. Before the 1949–50 season, the BAA merged with the National Basketball League to form the NBA. In basketball, free throws or foul shots are unopposed attempts to score points by shooting from behind the free-throw line (informally known as the foul line or the charity stripe), a line situated at the end of the restricted area. Free throws are generally awarded after a foul on the shooter by the opposing team, analogous to penalty shots in other team sports. Wilt Chamberlain's 100-point Game
Wilt Chamberlain set the single-game scoring record in the National Basketball Association (NBA) by scoring 100 points for the Philadelphia Warriors in a 169–147 win over the New York Knicks on March 2, 1962, at Hershey Sports Arena in Hershey, Pennsylvania. It is widely considered one of the greatest records in the sport's history.
