Jocassee Dam (often called Lake Jocassee Dam) is an embankment dam on the Keowee River, straddling the border of Pickens County, South Carolina, Pickens and Oconee County, South Carolina, Oconee counties in South Carolina in the United States. The dam forms Lake Jocassee, which is fed by the Toxaway River, Toxaway, Thompson, Horsepasture River, Horsepasture and Whitewater River (Keowee River), Whitewater Rivers, and serves primarily for hydroelectric power generation and flood control. The dam and reservoir are part of the Keowee-Toxaway Hydroelectric Project, owned and operated by Duke Energy. Pickens County is located in the northwest part of the U.S. state of South Carolina. As of the 2020 census, its population was 131,404. Its county seat is Pickens. The county was created in 1826.
