Joanna Newsom And The Ys Street Band
''Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band'' is an EP by Joanna Newsom, first released on April 9, 2007, via Drag City. The EP was recorded and mixed over three days at The Plant Studios after Joanna had cancelled three consecutive shows due to a lost voice at the end of her seven-week-long U.S. tour. It contains one previously unreleased song, "Colleen", and new arrangements of two previously released songs; "Clam, Crab, Cockle, Cowrie" from '' Milk-Eyed Mender'' and ''Walnut Whales'' and "Cosmia" from '' Ys''. The album title is a pun on the E Street Band, a musical group famous for backing up Bruce Springsteen. The cover is a photograph by William Eggleston. Joanna Newsom
Joanna Newsom (born January 18, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. Born and raised in Northern California, Newsom was classically trained on the harp in her youth and began her musical career as a keyboardist in the San Francisco-based indie band the Pleased. After recording and self-releasing two EPs in 2002, Newsom was signed to the independent label Drag City. Her debut album, ''The Milk-Eyed Mender'', was released in 2004 to critical acclaim and garnered Newsom an underground following. She would receive wider exposure with the release of '' Ys'' (2006), which charted at number 134 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and was nominated for a 2007 Shortlist Music Prize. Banjo

Neal Morgan
Neal Morgan (born March 7, 1979) is an American drummer, arranger of drums and percussion, and singer-songwriter. Morgan is best known as the drummer for Joanna Newsom and Bill Callahan. Morgan began drumming for Joanna Newsom in 2006 for the touring cycle in support of her second album Ys. In a 2007 interview, Newsom said of Morgan "I am in awe of him...he elevates literally every musical project he touches." He arranged drums and percussion for the live performance of that material as well as arranging for songs from her debut release, The Milk-Eyed Mender. Morgan contributed singing as well as performing his drum and percussion arrangements on Newsom's 2007 EP Joanna Newsom and the Ys Street Band. Musical Saw
A musical saw, also called a singing saw, is a hand saw used as a musical instrument. Capable of continuous glissando (portamento), the sound creates an ethereal tone, very similar to the theremin. The musical saw is classified as a plaque friction idiophone with direct friction (132.22) under the Hornbostel-Sachs system of musical instrument classification, and as a metal sheet played by friction (151) under the revision of the Hornbostel-Sachs classification by the MIMO Consortium.
