Joan Maria Mundó I Freixas
Juan María Mundó Freixas (Barcelona, 1877 – Ciudad Bolívar, 1932) was a Spanish explorer and diamond trader. In 1927 he organised, together with his son and the also Spanish explorer Fèlix Cardona i Puig, an expedition to the southwest of Venezuela starting in San Pedro de las Bocas, tracing back the rivers Caroni and Caruao until they arrived to the Auyán-tepui, discovering the waterfall known nowadays by the name Angel Falls (in honour of pilot Jimmie Angel, but in the native tongue were designated as Churun Merú). This waterfall has more than 1 km of height and is the highest in the world. The Caroní River is the second most important river of Venezuela, the second in flow, and one of the longest, from the Kukenan tepui through to its confluence with the Orinoco River. The name "Caroní" is applied starting from the confluence of the Kukenan with the Yuruaní River at from the source of the Kukenan and from its discharge in the Orinoco. James "Jimmie" Crawford Angel (August 1, 1899December 8, 1956) was an American aviator after whom Angel Falls in Venezuela, the tallest waterfall in the world, is named. Early life James Crawford Angel was born August 1, 1899, near Cedar Valley, Missouri, the son of Glenn Davis Angel and Margaret Belle (Marshall) Angel. Because his grandfather, James Edward Angel, was living, he was called ''Crawford'' to avoid confusion in the Angel family during his younger years. Francisco de Orellana Bejarano Pizarro y Torres de Altamirano (; 1511 – November 1546) was a Spanish explorer and conquistador. In one of the most improbably successful voyages in known history, Orellana managed to sail the length of the Amazon, arriving at the river's mouth on 24 August 1542. He and his party sailed along the Atlantic coast until reaching Cubagua Island, near the coast of Venezuela.
