Joan Chamorro
Joan Chamorro (born in 1962) is a Spanish jazz musician and music teacher. He plays saxophone, clarinet, flute, cornet, and double bass. He is the founder and director of the Sant Andreu Jazz Band. He developed his own teaching method. In 2012, he received the Premis Altaveu award. Biography Joan Chamorro studied saxophone at the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona under Adolf Ventas. He also graduated the music school Taller de Músics in Barcelona. He has played with Slide Hampton, Tete Montoliu, Frank Foster, Teddy Edwards, Frank Wess, Bebo Valdés, Randy Brecker, Gary Smulyan, Dick Oatts, Jessie Davis, Dennis Rowland, Carmen Lundy, John Mosca, David Allen, Bobby Shew, and Judy Niemack. He was part of the Big Band del Taller de músics, the Big Band de Bellaterra, John Dubuclet's Big Band, the Big Band Jazz Terrassa, and Eladio Reinón-Tete Montoliu's Supercombo. Dick Oatts
Richard Dennis Oatts (born April 2, 1953) is an American jazz saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, and educator. Biography While growing up in Des Moines, Iowa, Oatts gained an interest in music from his father, Jack Oatts, who was a saxophonist himself and a respected music educator in the Midwest. After high school, Oatts attended Drake University for one year before dropping out and moving to Minneapolis to begin a career in music in 1972. In 1977, he was called by Thad Jones to join The Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, which later became the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. Oatts moved to New York City to join the band, first playing tenor saxophone, and began playing Monday nights with Jones and Lewis at the Village Vanguard, as well as touring in Europe with them. Rita Payés Roma (born 1999) is a Spanish jazz and bossa nova trombonist, singer and songwriter. Early life Payés was born in Vilassar de Mar to a musical family with her mother, Elizabeth Roma, a classical guitarist and her father and brother trumpeters. She graduated in jazz trombone at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya. Career At the age of thirteen Payés joined the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, directed by Joan Chamorro where she began singing alongside Andrea Motis, Magalí Datzira, Alba Armengou and Eva Fernandez. At fifteen, she released her first album. In September 2017, Payés, joined by the ''Motis Chamorro Quintet'', played at the 17th Tanjazz festival in Tangier, Morocco. In 2019, Payés released ''Imagina'', in collaboration with her mother. The two went on tour to promote the album in Europe. Bobby Shew
Bobby Shew (born March 4, 1941) is an American jazz trumpet and flugelhorn player. Biography He was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. After leaving college in 1960, Shew was drafted into the U.S. Army and played trumpet and toured with the NORAD joint forces band stationed in Colorado Springs. After leaving the Army, Shew joined Tommy Dorsey's band and then played with the Woody Herman and then the Buddy Rich big bands in the mid-to-late 1960s. He was a trumpeter in Tom Jones's band while in Las Vegas, and is featured on his 1971 live album ''Live at Caesar's Palace''. In 1972, Shew moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles, where he did much studio work as well as play with some of the top big bands of the era through the end of the 1970s: Akiyoshi/Tabackin, Louis Bellson, Maynard Ferguson, and others. David Allen Stich (September 27, 1941 – April 28, 1985), also known as Rockin' Dave Allen and Dave Allen, was an American blues guitarist, singer and songwriter. Allen performed live throughout Texas and the Gulf Coast area from the late 1950s through the early 1980s. He recorded for the Jin, Eric, International Artists, Rock-a-Billy and Big Orange record labels for a total of sixteen 45 sides and two vinyl LPs. John Mosca (pronounced "Mohsca") (May 6, 1925 Chicago Heights, Illinois – July 13, 2011, Harahan, Louisiana) was an American restaurateur and owner (and co-founder) of the famed Mosca's, a Louisiana Creole cuisine, Louisiana Creole and Italian cuisine, Italian restaurant in Avondale, Louisiana, near New Orleans. Early life Mosca was born, raised and attended Bloom High School in Chicago Heights, Illinois. He worked for his parents, Provino and Lisa Mosca, at their local restaurant, which was also named Mosca's.
