Joachim Schmid
Joachim Schmid is a Berlin-based artist who has worked with found photography since the early 1980s. Life and career Schmid studied Visual Communication at Fachhochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd and Berlin University of the Arts from 1976 to 1981. He began his career as a freelance critic and the publisher of ''Fotokritik'', an iconoclastic and original contribution to West German photography. In the pages of ''Fotokritik'' and in his regular articles and lectures for other outlets, Schmid argued articulately and at times vehemently against prevailing, predominantly conservative notions of 'art photography' and in favour of a broad, encompassing critique of photography as a form of cultural practice. Martin Parr
Martin Parr (born 23 May 1952) is a British documentary photographer, photojournalist and photobook collector. He is known for his photographic projects that take an intimate, satirical and anthropological look at aspects of modern life, in particular documenting the social classes of England, and more broadly the wealth of the Western world. His major projects have been rural communities (1975–1982), ''The Last Resort'' (1983–1985), ''The Cost of Living'' (1987–1989), ''Small World'' (1987–1994) and ''Common Sense'' (1995–1999). ''Photoworks Annual'' is a British magazine which specialises in art photography, published by Photoworks. History The magazine was established in 2003 as ''Photoworks'' and was published biannually until 2013 when it became an annual publication and obtained its current name. Gordon MacDonald (editor)
Gordon MacDonald (born 1967) works with photography as an artist, writer, curator, press photographer and educator. He is the founding editor of ''Photoworks (magazine), Photoworks'' magazine and was head of publishing at Photoworks in Brighton. He co-founded Brighton Photo Fringe in 2003; and was for a time its chair of the board of trustees. He was co-founder and co-director, alongside Stuart Smith, of the visual arts publisher GOST. MacDonald is also half of the collective MacDonaldStrand, with his wife Clare Strand. Life and work MacDonald was born in East Kilbride, Scotland, in 1967. The Carnegie Museum of Art, is an art museum in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Originally known as the Department of Fine Arts, Carnegie Institute and was at what is now the Main Branch of the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. Clément Chéroux
Clément Chéroux (born 1970) is a French photography historian and curator. He is Chief Curator of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. He has also held senior curatorial positions at the Centre Pompidou in Paris and at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Chéroux has overseen many exhibitions and books on photographers and photography. He has been awarded the Prix Nadar (with Quentin Bajac) and a Royal Norwegian Order of Merit (Knight). Erik Kessels
Erik Kessels (1966) is a Dutch artist, designer and curator with a particular interest in photography, and co-founder of KesselsKramer, an advertising agency in Amsterdam. Kessels and Johan Kramer established the "legendary and unorthodox" KesselsKramer in 1996, and KesselsKramer Publishing, their Amsterdam-based publishing house. Found Photography
The term found photography can be used as a synonym for ''found photos'': photographs, usually anonymous, that were not originally intended as art but have been given fresh aesthetic meaning by an artist’s eye. “Found photography” can also refer more broadly to art that incorporates found photos as material, assembling or transforming them in some fashion. ABC Artists’ Books Cooperative is an international network created by and for artists who make print-on-demand books.
