Jiquilpan, Michoacán
Jiquilpan (; also spelled Xiuquilpan, Xiquilpan, Xiquilpa, based on a Náhuatl word for "place of tint plants") is a municipality ''(municipio)'' in the Mexican state of Michoacán. Its municipal seat is Jiquilpan de Juárez. Jiquilpan is the birthplace of two presidents of the republic: Anastasio Bustamante, who served as President on three occasions in the mid-19th century; and also of one of the most popular presidents of Mexico, Lázaro Cárdenas. Jiquilpan is the birthplace of Damián Alcázar, actor and movie director, who was in the films ''El crimen del padre Amaro'', ''La Ley de Herodes'', and '' The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian'', among others. The city is also the birthplace of trumpet virtuoso Rafael Méndez. Damián Alcázar
Damián Alcázar (born January 8, 1953) is a Mexican actor and politician, who is best known outside of Mexico as Lord Sopespian in '' The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian''. He was a deputy in the Constituent Assembly of Mexico City. Career Damián Alcázar studied acting first at the National Institute of Fine Arts and at the Theatrical Experimentation Center, then continued at the Faculty of Theater of the Veracruz University, where in later years he would work as a teacher. He served as an actor for eight years in two theatre companies, alongside the most prestigious directors in Mexico. Sahuayo
Sahuayo ( Nahuatl: ''Tzacuātlayotl'') is a city in the state of Michoacán, in western México, near the southern shore of Lake Chapala. It serves as the municipal seat for the surrounding municipality of the same name. Sahuayo is an important center for industry and is the center of commerce for the Chapala lake region, specialising in crafts, sandals ( huaraches), hats (sombreros) which are made by Sahuayenses. Palmdale is a city in northern Los Angeles County in the U.S. state of California. The city lies in the Antelope Valley region of Southern California. Rafael Méndez (March 26, 1906 – September 15, 1981) was a Mexican virtuoso solo trumpeter. He is known as the " Heifetz of the Trumpet." Early life Méndez was born in Jiquilpan, Michoacán, Mexico to a musical family. As a child, he performed as a cornetist for guerrilla leader Pancho Villa, becoming a favorite musician of his and required to remain with Villa's camp. Career Before music Méndez emigrated to the US, first settling in Gary, Indiana, at age 20 and worked in steel mills. Lázaro Cárdenas
Lázaro Cárdenas del Río (; 21 May 1895 – 19 October 1970) was a Mexican army officer and politician who served as president of Mexico from 1934 to 1940. Born in Jiquilpan, Michoacán, to a working-class family, Cárdenas joined the Mexican Revolution and became a general in the Constitutionalist Army. Although he was not from the state of Sonora, whose revolutionary generals dominated Mexican politics in the 1920s, Cárdenas was hand-picked by Plutarco Elías Calles, Sonoran general and former president of Mexico, as a presidential candidate and won in the 1934 general election.
