James Shaw (artist)
James Shaw (12 January 1815 – 1 September 1881) was a Scottish painter, photographer, engraver, lithographer, surveyor, and lawyer. He was also an early colony of South Australia, colonist of South Australia. Biography Shaw was born on 12 January 1815 at Dumfries, Scotland to James and Isabella Shaw. His father was a clerk and proofreader who painted for pleasure, and his brother George Baird Shaw. Shaw went to Edinburgh Royal High School, and then studied law at the University of Edinburgh. In September 1836, sponsored by Justice Thomas McCornock, he left Edinburgh for Jamaica to be a bookkeeper. He painted in his free time. When people realised his talent, they started to ask him for commissions. In 1841, he became a surveyor and began taking portrait commissions. In 1847, Shaw learned photography and became a photographer. He married Janet Liddle Paterson on 5 July 1850. Together, they moved to Adelaide in the colony of South Australia. Major-General James Michael Shaw CBE is a former British Army officer who became General Officer Commanding, Theatre Troops. Military career Shaw was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Signals in 1972. He served as commanding officer of 14 Signal Regiment (Electronic Warfare) during the Gulf War in 1991. James Shaw is a paralympic athlete from Canada competing mainly in category F38 throwing events. James has competed in three Paralympics. In 1996 he won gold in both the F34/37 discus and shot and bronze in the javelin. James Callum Shaw (born 6 June 1996) is a British road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He previously rode for Belgian UCI WorldTeam in 2017 and 2018, having come through their Under-23 team, in 2019 and in 2020. Career Early life and amateur career Shaw was born in Nottingham but grew up in the town of Heanor, Derbyshire. When he was six years old, he joined his first cycling club, Heanor Clarion. James Napoleon Shaw (born February 27, 1989) is a former American football wide receiver who is currently a free agent. Shaw played college football at Jacksonville State University. He has been a member of the Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Power, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Jose Sabercats and Portland Steel. Early years Shaw lettered in football and basketball at St. Clair County High School in Odenville, Alabama.
